    How to Beat Nebraska

Mobile Quarterback. Not just broken plays and scrambles but designed plays and aggressive running from the quarterback. The Pelinis' built that defense with one thing in mind...shut down the spread offense. You also cannot afford to have a bunch of three and outs. You can wear down NU's defense and we need to shorten the game with time possession.

I admit on defense it will be a bit more challenging to stop NU. I do think you have to be aggressive. I think any kind of bend don't break or lay back with a "spy" scheme will end up in NU just lighting up the scoreboard. We have to have penetration because Helu and Martinez are a lot harder to tackle beyond the line of scrimmage. they both run away from people.

I agree offense needs to smash it right down their throats! I watched a few of their games and seems like if you go right at them ,they didnt do as well containing . I am nervous and excited to see what and how we do next week!!

Which means Patrick neil shouldn't play, he got pushed around every time he was in.

We're going to have to score a ton of points, because we haven't shown we can slow down a running attack yet this year. They'll move it at will.

    Score more points than them.

    It really is that simple.

You can end the thread now.

    Re: How to Beat Nebraska

Attack them in the center of the field both in the run game and in the passing game. Their weakness is clearly their linebackers. Run between the tackles and pass between the hashes. Missouri had a lot of success in these areas. Their defense is not nearly as good as last year. How to defend depends on if Martinez plays.

Get 8 turnovers? That would help a lot.

Play keep away. We need to run the ball and kill clock. Limit the amount of time Martinez and Helu have the ball.

I'd say our defense should look at what MU and OSU did, and then do the opposite.

Can you imagine if they turn the ball over even 3-4 times this year? Pretty sure Bo's head will explode or he will have a massive aneurism on the spot. We don't have to force 8 turnovers but I think we need to win the turnover margin again.

Keep away does not mean force A-Rob to be stuffed for 2 yard gains every time. I agree that clock management is one of our biggest weapons, but keep in mind we have an adept short passing game to rely on as well. Throw the short ones to Franklin, mix those in with some runs with Arnaud, Robinson, and Woody... and every once in a while, take a shot down the field. We're gonna have to get just a little lucky if we want a shot in this one.

I do think that if Iowa State wants to win this game, we will need to score at least 35 points.

Not only force turnovers but take advantage of them too and put points on the board!!! Have to take advantage of everything and prove on every down that we deserve to be in the game.

    Re: How to Beat Nebraska

Keeping the ball away from nebraska will only do so much. IMO: iowa state might win the time of possession 35-25 or something and could still lose. Helu and Martinez score QUICK. Lots of 1 play drives this year. They are just so FAST. 50,60,70 + yard runs. Man those guys can light up the scoreboard.

This is like a nebraska of old team. Great defense and awesome 1-2-3 punch with QB-RB-RB (Burkhead). Again: its going to take one monumental effort to beat these guys.
