    Baylor at Texas

Anybody watching this? The texas player fumbled the ball backwards in the endzone and recovered it in the endzone and the refs called it a touchback?!? I thought it would be a safety and so did the commentators. The commentators kept calling it a "gift" for texas.
Edit: What I should have said was the original call was Baylor's ball on the one because he fumbled it a second time. Then they reviewed it for a good 5-6 minutes. Then showing the replay, it was clear that it probably should be a safety because his knee was down before he fumbled a second time but he was in the endzone so it should have been a safety. The replay official ruled it as a touchback.

No, it was texas' ball. I forgot to say in the first post that it was a punt return.

If you have Mediacom, the game is on their Connections channel. According to the guide, it's supposed to be an NHL game. I only discovered it because I couldn't figure out why Mediacom Connections was showing an Atlanta Thrashers game.

However, the sound is about 5 seconds behind the video. Really annoying.

    Re: Baylor at Texas

The play, after watching it a couple times, was a muff IMO. First control by Texas was in the endzone.

BTW: Score 10-9 Baylor (Field goal fest)

if it was ruled a muffed punt, then it might be the right call. a muff that goes out of the endzone is a touchback for the receiving team and not a safety because a muff, by rule, means they have not established posession yet. if they had established posession, it would go in the stat book as a catch and fumble rather than a muff.

Note: i have not seen the play, just offering a possible explanation.

It was a muff - not a fumble. The right call was made.
