So my 10 year HS reunion is coming up

First off, I have no plans on attending, but I just want to get your take on some things.

First off, what's the point of having a 10 year? If you go to college and get your undergrad, that's only 6 years in the working world. Even less if you get a masters or PhD. Heck, some people may still be completing their education, depending on the career. So what's the point? 20 years, 30 years, etc. I can see, but not 10.

Second, there's a facebook page for our reunion and there's all sorts of people being invited that didn't even graduate. Am I wrong in thinking they shouldn't be allowed to attend? If you didn't graduate, why should you come to a "celebration" of it? Heck, there are some people in the group that didn't even make it to high school.

Lastly, with technology such as Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, etc. is there even a point to a reunion? Did you go to yours?

Yes there is a point to a reunion. Always a good time to get back together with high school friends and drink a few beers.

10 year reunions are fine. Quit being uptight.

Didn't realize I was being uptight by asking a question?

Re: So my 10 year HS reunion is coming up

Oh yeah, you're being uptight, all right.

    To answer your points...

I betcha that lots of people didn't go to college in your class, and have been working for ten years. It doesn't all revolve around you and your experiences

That's aside from the fact that, whether you went to college or not, it's been ten years since most people have seen one another (unless you had a five year). That means a lot of changes. They have not only new spouses, but KIDS to show off!

My class reunions have been all about "inclusion". Whether someone graduated with us or not (even if they moved away in ninth grade), they were always welcome--and people were more than glad to see familiar faces from their childhood years.

Loosen up. Relax. Go, and gave fun--or else it'll be forty years, you won't have been to one, you'll go, and half the people that you want to see THEN will have passed away...

Again, loosen up? I don't get it. You want to go, then go. The people that I want to talk to, I still talk to. The people that I'm curious about, I'm friends with on Facebook and get daily updates on their life. Don't get what's uptight about my opinion on it.

Among other things, your attitude about whether people who didn't graduate with your class "deserve" to go. And that ten years "isn't important" enough to go.

And if you think that Facebook even approximates face to face meetings and a few minutes making eye contact with an old friend...well, good luck with that.

Maybe I just misunderstood. I thought a class reunion was a reunion of your graduating class. My apologies.

It's a reunion of people you spent a lot of time with.

Who cares how many YEARS it's been, or who exactly gets invited. You only get so many chances to say hi to people you know from school.

I didn't go to my 5 year, but I live a few states away now. If I was closer to home I probably would have went.

Re: So my 10 year HS reunion is coming up

Didn't go to my 5 year, won't go to my 10 year (OMG, that's next year already!). As mentioned above, I keep in contact with the folks I really hung out with quite a bit. I was lucky enough that my close group of HS friends went to ISU with me - most were mechanical engineering students to boot. We've had our own reunions based on weddings, football games, etc. If you don't want to go, don't feel bad about not going.

And I for one don't think you're being uptight, FWIW.

Cyrocksmypants- dont go unless you want to see old freinds. all these people here are downing on you for some reason when its your choice. Besides why would you want to go to see all of those ****** that you have despised for many years.

So you're not going, but complaining about who is going? That points to some pretty obvious things that probably haven't changed since high school.

Okay, I'll tell you what you want to hear, don't go...

Keeping tabs on people electronically in this age isn't the same as getting together with everyone in person. Still, its obvious you don't want to go, so don't, nobody is making you.

Well said especially the part in bold. We had a 5 year reunion we had a family picnic in the day and a night at the bar at night. Didn't go to the picnic and thought about not going to the evening part because I wondered if people really change since high school. I went to the evening part and had a blast. People had changed as I saw people talking that never said a word to each other in high school. Our ten year was last year and I went to both parts of the reunion and looked forward to it.
