Have you turned on your furnace?

I typically try to hold out until December 1st to turn mine on but last night tested my will power. When I woke up at 6:30 this morning, it was 55 degrees in the house. But I resisted...at least for a few more days/weeks.

I wanted to make it to Nov. 1, but mid-50s yesterday morning was a nightmare.

So are you cheap or just trying to prove something?

I just turned my AC off 10 minutes ago, does that count?

    Wow!

I guess you can call me cheap because I try to hold of as long as possible.

Excellent, your frugality will offset all of the energy I've squandered this year.

Re: Have you turned on your furnace?

I lived in one of Furman's apartments the last two years and a combination of living on the second floor and having a 50 inch plasma meant I never, ever turned my heat on.

The house I'm in now is a little older so we just turned it on this week.

Re: Have you turned on your furnace?

I did because I wanted to ensure it ran. It sucks trying to get service in about a month when they are busy.

And guess what...it didn't turn on so I needed service to get it going.

Re: Have you turned on your furnace?

I checked to make sure it worked, but no way I'd keep it on yet, I avoid paying that bill as long as possible. It's still in the 60's or so in the house at night, plenty warm if you put on a sweatshirt.

Re: Have you turned on your furnace?

I did this morning. I didn't particularly need it, but I've got a pet rabbit and it's freezing in his area because the windows are so drafty. Didn't want him dying, so I turned the heat on until I'm able to get some plastic on the windows this weekend.

Re: Have you turned on your furnace?

I held out yesterday but found it hard today since my daughter is home with me and it was 60 degrees so I JUST kicked it on. And yes, some of us like to spend our money on other things when you have a work around(More Layers). Especially since Heating cost twice as much as Air conditioning.

Re: Have you turned on your furnace?

I have it on...set to a really low temperature (around 64)... just bought the house. Last winter the house burst a few pipes and I would rather pay a bit of a gas bill to make sure the house stays a safe temperature than have to work to clean up a burst pipe.
