CPR not in top 3 for Big12 coach of the year

Surprised to see that David Ubben doesn't even have CPR in the top 3 for coach of the year so far in the Big12.

I know Coaches Briles and Pinkel have done some great things with their programs so far this year, but Coach Gundy above CPR?? Really??

He has him at #4 under honorable mention. Really, we have done less than all of those teams so far. I am in now way surprised or mad.

Missourri, Baylor, and Iowa State are all having great years and performing above their talent level. How can you include any other team's coaches in the equation?

Rhoads need 2 or 3 more wins to get in the discussion. Also keep in mind that if BU and OSU take a step back down the stretch, those coaches will lose some gusto with Ubben.

Just let the season play out.

I wouldn't expect him in the top 3 right now! OU, mizz, nebr, baylor etc have all more reasons to be higher than cpr. We are 4 and 4 and have beat texas this year that is all we have done worth a damn this year!

This is for Coach of the Year, not team of the year. Obviously it is to early to tell, but ISU, Baylor, and Missouri are all performing above expectations and talent level in the first 2/3 of the season, so you think their coaches would have to be in the running.

2 more wins and he will be.

I think it goes to Pinkle though.

So is OK State... they lost a ton of starters and were expected to be significantly worse this year.

Agreed... this is where I was coming from. I know we're only 4 and 4, but when you consider the preseason predictions, talent level, etc. IMO he's done some pretty remarkable things especially with TT & Texas wins - rallying the troops to victory after two major floggings. Just thought it was interesting. I know there's a lot of season left yet and the real "winners" will be decided on who can lead their teams to the important victories down the homestretch. Hopefully it will be a "no contest" after the next 4 games when Nebby beats Mizzou and we win out, putting us in the Big12 title game

Ubben doesn't know what to think of the Cyclones. After Tech he was all ISU has a good chance to beat Utah then we let him down. he cautious to catch the Cyclone train again.

Re: CPR not in top 3 for Big12 coach of the year

Putting my ISU bias aside, I can see where Ubben is coming from. We are .500 right now, if we beat KU and Colorado like we should and pull off an upset over Mizzou or Nebraska then CPR should definitely be number 1 or 2. But for now, honorable mention seems about right. If we hadn't lost to Utah and Oklahoma in embarrassing fashion I could see where CPR is #3.

As it stands now, it should be:

    1) Pinkel (knocked off #1 and undefeated)
    2) Briles (#1 in South)
    3) Gundy (only 1 loss)

    Honorable Mention: Paul Rhoads

If we can win 3 more out of the 4 we have left then it should go to CPR unless Mizzou runs the table.

Re: CPR not in top 3 for Big12 coach of the year

Sorry to go off-topic but this really surprised me:

Falling: Iowa State's red zone defense

In a league of their own in the same stat: Iowa State. The Cyclones have allowed opponents in the red zone 44 times this year, giving up 34 total scores and 24 touchdowns. Iowa State has played eight games, but no other team in college football has allowed an opponent in the red zone more than 41 times this year, ranking the Cyclones last of 120 FBS teams.

Who cares about our record. We are overachieving right now and that's all due to great coaching.

If we had beaten K-State like we should have we'd be sitting at 5-3 and I think he'd be second on the list right now.

    That game still remains pivotal.
