    Trouble in Norman

I don't have a link, but Fox Sports Radio just announced that OU has to forfeit all of their 2005 wins, and they lose scholarships in 08-10.

I guess they are lucky, that car dealership thing is a lot bigger than these penalties. Kudos to the NCAA for having the courage to take a stand against all of this corruption.

    Re: Trouble in Norman

Doesn't seem THAT harsh (although having to forefit a season is...) - it's not like the 2005 campaign was an outstanding year for them, and 2 scholies is but a drop in the bucket for them...

I would have liked to have seen the "SMU" treatment put on them - that way EVERYONE gets the message.

    Re: Trouble in Norman

Maybe I'm just naive to NCAA punishments, but isn't forfeiting an entire season a pretty massive deal? Seems like there would be a lot more brouhaha than this... And what does that mean for the teams it played? Do they get to change their L to a W and add a point to their recordbooks?

    True and Valiant

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

With an asterisk, and an explanation.

It's too bad we didn't play them. Heck, if we had, then Dan could go out and have some more Big 12 North co-champ rings made for the players. They could have one for each hand. Alas, it doesn't affect us at all.

    Re: Trouble in Norman

Forfeiting wins serves no purpose. Is it suppose to make the opponents feel better? How about making them pay back their bowl money and any other television money? Losing scholarships is a decent penalty, but again this was a booster's problem not Stoops.

You are right, forfeits mean nothing.

But if you think that Stoops had no idea what was going on at that car dealership, I would call you naive.

This and the mess Sampson left behind - OU is looking pretty ugly all around in both major men's sports.

    Re: Trouble in Norman

Didn't Colorado have to forfeit a season in the late 90s? They played us in Ames and it was a helluva game, but of course, Colorado won in a close game. I don't think we ever got credit for a win after it was all said and done.

    Re: Trouble in Norman

having grown up in OKC, i can tell you that this has been going on for years! as i believe, it has in at least 50% of the major programs. IMO, this is just another reason as to why college athletes should be compensated financially, in some shape or form. just my 2 cents worth.

As a cyclone fan. I am just glad to hear we finished ahead of OU for the 2005 season. There lucky we did not play them or we would have had a win over them in 2005. We rock

They get a wrist slap. Until the NCAA goes after pocketbooks, they might as well say they encourage cheating.

    Re: Trouble in Norman

I lived in Norman at the end of the Barry Switzer/Brian Bozworth eara. Football players ran the town. Bozworth had a Jeep, a Corvette and a BMW all at his disposal. My wife's best friend worked for an insurance agent who was a huge Sooner booster. If was a full time job for one AA just to keep track of all the vehicles that players were driving and make sure they all had insurance coverage under somebody's name. When the Bohmar story broke I knew exactly what car dealership was involved before I read the story. Big Red Imports used to adverstise their "relationship" with the Sooner football program. (Also lots of rumors that they imported more than cars.) But what do you expect from a team who's mascot is a self proclaimed cheater!!

No, ISU doesn't get any benefits from it now... but we should have had a better bowl game now.
