    Ejim vs Barnes

I'm not sure where I saw the link and apologize if this has already been broguht up, but CBS Sportsline (I think) is predicting Barnes as POY and to the NBA after one season. With all the good things we've been hearing about Ejim, including from Fred, maybe things actually worked out the best for us. What good would it do for us to have Barnes for this year only? Was it ever a possibility to get both of them? If so I guess my point is moot anyway.

    Re: Ejim vs Barnes

Everyone talked about how Barnes is going to college for an education too. CBS has no idea if he's going to go pro or not, they're just assuming. No offense to Ejim, because I think he will be a great cyclone, but I would take Barnes before him in a heartbeat.

I would have liked to have them both though

You gotta look at the bright side. If Barnes comes here, Mcdermott probably stays here as well. It worked out for the best.

    Re: Ejim vs Barnes

Draft Express has had him as the #1 pick in 2011 for well over a year now. I don't know about you guys but I'd be ok taking 20 mil+ playing only one year in college.

    Re: Ejim vs Barnes

You can get an education at any time. Honestly, I'd take my 15-20 million dollars per year, hopefully have a nice long career, then when I'm retired at 38, go back to school and get my degree if it's that important. If he's as smart as people say he is, he'll probably invest his money anyway, and won't need that college degree.

From what i've heard.... the kid is very interested in finance/ business... the first thing you learn in any of your finance classes is that a dollar today is worth more than a dollar tomorrow... if he can be the top pick after this year, he WILL be gone. That is an absolute guarantee

    Re: Ejim vs Barnes

Barnes would of played the 2, the thought was Phillips' commitment was contingent on Barnes not coming.

The real trade off is it would of saved GMac for a couple more years. Most likely would of been able to snag some very good posts with Barnes committed.

That kind of money is about to be unavailable.
Stern is talking 30% cut in player salaries and contraction of teams.

Not to mention there is already a rookie salary cap in the NBA.

    Re: Ejim vs Barnes

Best to get Barnes. It leads to national level interest. I mean think about it. A four or five star "I could be playing with HB and he could get my alot of national exposure" Hell yeah ill go to ISU! And then they would keep pouring in. But I like how things turned out. We can recruit well now. Thats what i like, psyched for tavon i love these ny guards. like stinson and blaylock

Barnes might stay an extra year once he gets to know some Tarheel tail.

Maybe he doesn't need the money? Shirley Barnes is now driving a brand new cream-colored Lincoln Navigator - complete with a North Carolina logo sticker in the back window.
Quite an upgrade from her beat-up Ford Explorer...

That is quite funny, contingent upon that actually being a joke and not reality.

Except that as a pro, you can make serious bank off endorsements, especially if you come in as the number one pick and have a decent rookie year. I wonder how much Derrick Rose of Chicago has made from endorsements in the first two years as a pro vs. his salary of $10 million over that time.

Not saying that HB will become the #1 pick and ROY, but at this point, there's not really anyone more likely than him to do so.
