    Aftermath: Recruiting in Texas

I know a lot of people have said this in other threads, but i wanted to make an exclusive thread for people to get their thoughts out. How big of a difference does this make? How long will this game matter in the long run for Texas recruits.

Considering our recruiting is almost done for this year, we need to keep the mo' going forward to really capitalize.

    Re: Aftermath: Recruiting in Texas

I don't think we'll steal recruits from the University of Texas because of this, but hopefully the 2nd tier players will think of us as a viable option to stick it to their home state. Maybe now we can steal recruits from Okie State and Texas A&M.

I think/hope we'll get good mileage from the sound bites from the post-game locker room videos. Today's (tossing the game ball) and the one from last year's kNU game are a definite selling point for being a member of CPR's team. These sound bites don't happen without the big wins. And I don't think the post-game press conference helps Mack Brown's recruiting (not that he needs it).

    Re: Aftermath: Recruiting in Texas

I had a tinge of sarcasm in my response. Fair enough question.

But I've seen several posts today bring up the recruiting angle, and while it certainly can't hurt, the impact is probably negligible, at least when it comes to Big 12 (if we could steal TCU's fire, I'm all for something like that)

Start beating the Texas teams regularly with the new round-robin schedule and elevate "good" seasons from 6-6 to 8-4, and that could be a factor.

Is there a link to that?

Haven't seen a link. But Fox Sports Midwest just showed it during half-time of the KU-A&M game.

Brown compared this year's team to 2007 and said he couldn't "trust" them to perform how he wanted them to. He couldn't "trust" them to be focused and work hard. He said he's been "working on them" to be what he wants them to be.

    He was/is obviously pretty frustrated.

I guess I am thinking more like this. You get to see your sons play 2 times a year and know that they have a shot of winning. I mean imagine sending your son all the way to Ames. You probably catch **** inevitably for sending them to a team with a history as lethargic as ISU's, but now they are competing. Hell this week you get to brag a little on your son. Sounds like a good deal to me.

It helps to keep the guys we have, but I agree, next year with the 4 games against Texas' schools we could see some results.

    Re: Aftermath: Recruiting in Texas

Some results this year (especially if we are seriously after a couple of Texas jucos), but the main effect is now, when CPR calls a 2012 recruit, he has credibility. Going to ISU isn't just a matter of being able for the parents to see a game once a year, it's knowing there is a real chance of beating the big name in Texas.

And I'm guessing that Ja'Quarius Daniels had an awful darn good time going home tonight--and, even better, going to school on Monday!

The most immediate impact, however, is that I'll worry a little less about some of our sleepers (who are actually good prospects) looking elsewhere when their recruiting blows up.

    Paul Rhoads' players never quit.
    (They just disappear offseason)

    How can it hurt?
We came off the deck (27-120 the last two weeks) to get a road win at the school that played for the title, last year.
We also received a lot of rep on TV for absorbing those two beatings and bouncing back.

We are getting A LOT of air time because of this. The prime time Big 12 matchup helps in getting us a few name drops as well
