    Iowa Mr. Basketball

    Quick, without looking...

How many Iowa Mr. Basketballs have the Cyclones gotten since it's inception in 1981?

    Bonus points: Name them.

No fair Wikipedia-ing, (like I did!)

I think it's just Hoiberg and Vette isn't it? Of course I was less than 10 in the 80s so I might have missed a few there.

    Nice job...

U of I has had nine, by my quick count...I hope this changes.

Although Robert Johnson didn't exactly light the world on fire, did he!

Nope. They were both first-team all-state, but Hoiberg was the consensus player of the year in Iowa (i.e., Mr. Basketball, Gatorade Player of the Year, etc.). I think they might have been co-Players of the Year in the old Des Moines Metro Conference, but Beechum didn't get the same amount of pub throughout the rest of the state that Hoiberg did, so he wasn't as well-known.

Now that you mention it, I thought I had heard that back in the day. Wikipedia say no, though. And we know that it is always right.

Neither did Bergman! I honestly don't ever remember seeing either Bergman or Johnson on the floor at Hilton for a basketball game. Doesn't it count to say we "landed" them if they never even played?

Bergman played and contributed a little if my memory serves.

was it true that Tom Osborne was looking at Hoiberg to play option QB at nebraska? good god, that's one of thoese "what-if's" that makes me cringe even today!

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.

That and Lute Olson wanted him down at Arizona.

His final 3 came down to Iowa State, Arizona, and Stanford.

I'm pretty sure he transferred to a D2 school, like North Dakota after the 92-93 season.
