A thought to ISU football fans..

Please take a breath and pay attention to the details of this moment for posterity.

It's not easy being an ISU fan. But moments like this are the fruit of many disappointments. This day is truly sweet. Please sock this day away with the greatest of detail and use it as a benchmark of how far this program has come over the last 30 years. I feel that the ISU fanbase (myself included at time-to-time) suffers from a yo-yo cycle of manic optimism and over-exaggerated despair.

This milestone win coupled with the Nebraska win last year is a significant indicator of a very bright future. A future that may not materialize overnight but one that I believe is coming. Our football program is in capable, competent hands. Good things are happening here.

May this huge victory give us all calmness and confidence in our football coaches and student athletes through the rest of the season.

Word. Knowing us, it only lasts a couple of weeks, but much wisdom in that OP.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.

Yep. These are the moments that make the time, money, and heartbreak being a ISU fan worthwhile. I'll have a grin on my face all day.

I agree. Games like today, NU last year, Iowa in 2007 and A&M in 2005 really need to be savored. There are others I'm missing but we don't get to enjoy games like today's very often. Truly, all ISU fans should sit back and take this one in. I know I am.

I think/hope it goes beyond savoring the ever occassional upset. What we are witnessing is a newbie coach growing his wings with another completely unexpected road upset. Utah/Ok losses seem to be a springboard as opposed to a death sentence which i cannot remember seeing happen forever at ISU. Could we be on the greatest turnaround in our sordid football history?

Re: A thought to ISU football fans..

Talking to my dad after the game, we both discussed having that nervous feeling in the 4th quarter wondering how the Cyclones would blow it, when Texas looked like they were picking up steam. Same thing happened for me at the Texas Tech game a little. I am continuing to realize that I need to replace that sinking feeling of thinking we might not hold a lead at the end of the game with a feeling of confidence knowing that this coaching staff can hold it together and close out big wins.

    Go Clones!

I felt the exact same way - I kept looking to see how we would blow it. Coach Rhoads has instilled a different mentality with the team, I think. We turned around from a 68-27 beat-down and a 52-0 thrashing to play tough in Austin and beat the Horns for the first time ever. Time to start believing if you haven't already!

Great post.......sadly, I spend most (or all) of our Elite Eight basketball season waiting for reality to drop kick the Cyclones, and in the end, didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I should have.
