Or buy one at Walmart and do it yourself. They really are not difficult. I can change one in about 5 minutes. Just loosen the chain, take the cover off, remove the chain (keeping in mind which way the chain is going), put the new chain on, put on the cover and tighten. Some saws you have to loosen or even remove the cover before you can loosen the chain so keep that in mind.

This. Very simple job. I buy my chains at Lowe's.

This is one thing every man should learn how to do. Take your owners manual and 15 minutes and teach yourself. Buy a chain from any place chainsaws are sold.

Why replace it? Is it worn out or just dull?

If you can't change a chain than you probably shouldn't own or operate a chainsaw. It is a lot harder to find the right chain than it is to put one on. Also, have you sharpened the chain? Usually you can sharpen a chain 15 or more times if you use files. With a chain sharpener you might get 10 sharpenings before your teeth are too short.

I agree, but I borrowed it from a friend so I don't have the owner's manual and he doesn't either. He bought it off of an old coworker.

Truth be told, I don't know anything about chainsaw chains. All I know is that the reservoir for the chain oil is fresh and full and it still doesn't cut for crap. Chain also seems loose and won't tighten any further. I'd like to return the saw in as good or better shape than he lent it to me in.

I have operated a chainsaw several times. I can handle one just fine, thank you. I have never owned one of my own so i have never had to sharpen/replace a chain, until now.
