    Genie Lamp

Wow, I'm really bored this Friday. So, here's a random thread:

Let's say you find a Genie Lamp "for sports only." But you only get 1 wish... (it's a crappy lamp you found with a lame genie that is too lazy to grant 3 wishes. Also, the genie can't grant anything financially, go back in time and allow some ISU team a title......so no 5 Billion a year to the ISU athletic office wish for most of you, or every year ISU wins national titles....or 5 out of 20 years ISU wins a national title automatically....you can only make one major event/season happen. "Future events only.") You can simply wish for something good to happen to ISU athletics.

Obvious ideas would stream to your mind. A sweet, completely re-vamped JTS stadium? An undefeated-National Championship (35-0) season for Freddy's first year as head men's BB coach? ISU Football wins out the remainder of the year and wins the Big 12 Championship Game and the Fiesta Bowl? ISU Football undefeated National Championship in 2011? Our next QB wins the Heisman?

What would be your one wish for Cyclone Athletics and why?

For me, I would go with the undefeated basketball season under Hoiberg for this season. It would blow people's minds. The GOLDEN BOY wins us a title? How could anything be bigger at ISU? The media would love the story... Yes, it's basketball....but IMO...and my time growing up everything ISU....basketball was always the "backbone" to everything ISU athletics. (I understand that we have always been a powerhouse in Wrestling and all, but when Johnny Orr was the ISU coach....it was really the "flagship" program for ISU athletics.)

Thus, I would go with the mind melting event of ISU winning the whole thing this year in hoops, with the mayor, and un-proven players. Almost like when Larry Bird took little 'ole Indiana State all the way to the championship game....(though they lost.)....it would be the very "iconic" event for Iowa State Athletics. Plus, it would launch us for like FOREVER in hoops from that moment forward.

That would be my wish. I could die happy seeing Iowa State winning in one of the MAJOR sports.

    What would be yours?

This. I am a fan of many ISU sports but the football NC is probably the least likely to happen without the Genie and would most likely have the greatest positive effect to the AD's bottom line. As the Chinese proverb says, a rising tide raises all ships.

    Re: Genie Lamp

See, I wouldn't pick 2011 just yet if I chose to win in Football. You just know...with all of the BCS BS rankings....that an undefeated ISU team may still not win the National title. The media would proclaim that the Big 12 is "way down" this year and all that would be discussed. So that is why I went with the tournament sport in Hoops...plus it's Freddy. Would be freaking sweet.

I guess though, if you specifically said the words "National Title" to the genie mentioning FB...he could make it happen. But if you were careless and said just an undefeated season in 2011...you just know the ISU luck would still leave us out of winning it all. Like Auburn in '04 or something. But maybe some of you would want that to happen? It allows a little mystery there in that season....

    Re: Genie Lamp

I went with MBB, just because I think it would be easier to sustain if we had a breakout year. Obviously, with ISU's history, you wouldn't just take that for granted, but even ISU post-Elite Eight was a slow decline and took a major coaching scandal to really fall apart.

Compare that to the KU orange bowl team and you can see how much harder it is to really breakthrough and become a fixture amongst the football elite. That program was in serious decline even before the **** hit the fan with Mangino.

We beat Auburn for the NC next year after <insert name of favorite player on next year's roster> beats out Taylor Martinez for the Heisman. Or insert Nebraska for Auburn and Cam Newton for Taylor Martinez. Either way is fine with me.

    Re: Genie Lamp

A completely new indoor football complex. This complex would be of epic proportions (we are talking a genie wish here), at a cost, if not instantly generated by a genie, that would run into the billions, and would have:

    • 80,000 seats (you only get to build a stadium with a roof once), expandability through upper deck endzone to 90,000.
    • Retractable Roof and an openable 'window' on at least one end(think lucas oil stadium here)
    • Attached football indoor practice facility for additional practice space
    • Attached top-of the line training facility and locker rooms, and top of the line lounge facilities for our players
    • Ample space for football and athletic department offices
    • A full length ceiling hung video board ala Cowboys Stadium
    • Built in entertainment and dining complex to draw visitors on non gamedays, including theaters and restaurants
    • Additional attached indoor practice field for the band, and rehearsal and storage space for them as well.
    • Underground pedestrian entrance tunnels going out to the grass lots
    • Facility would be versatile to handle multiple types of events, concerts, conventions, NCAA events, etc

No recruit wouldnt be wowed, and suddenly our venue would become THE place to go for an incredible football experience for casual fans. Both of these would breed winning.

Alternately, i would wish for the earth to open up and swallow up Iowa City, leaving only one FBS program in the state.
