    new kitchen cabinet help needed

We just bought an old house and we are updating the kitchen a bit. Since its a real old house, I dont want to invest a ton in it. We are thinking about just using the unfinished stock cabinets that places like Home Depot, Lowes, or Menards carry. Has anyone ever used these and how well do they finish. Also, are there any other places that have quality inexepensive cabinets that you reccomend?

It takes a lot of work and time to sand, stain, and put a clear protective coat on in order for cabinets to look good. I've done it, and I am glad I did. But, if I ever remodel a kitchen again, I will spend an extra $1500-$2000 to get the finished product. It all depends on what you value more, time or money.

I agree with Legi's comments. You can certainly do it yourself, as it doesn't require a masters degree. One note though, it is a very messy process regardless of how careful you are. I would finish them out in the garage anf keep the mess and stink out of the house. Also, don't forget sanding sealer to help the stain to coat evenly.

From having remodeled and sold a couple of houses, my opinion is upgrades to kitchens and baths are most valued by buyers. So spending a few more bucks to get nicer cabinetry would be worth it.

RTA Cabinets, Solid Wood Discount Cabinets and RTA Kitchen Cabinets

They will answer all your questions, I just did uppers and lowers one home, galley style. One 128" run with sink, the otherside with stove and fridge 123". Cost about $2,900 . Easy to put together and prefinished. Plywood sides, solid fronts, 1/4 inch back. Wood laminated, finished ends. I cant find anything wrong with them, I was amazed.

Spambots are trouble. Spread viruses faster than an Iowa co-ed.

We bought the unfinished ones from Menards and Stained them ourselves and they turned out awesome. Private message me with an email address and I can send you some of the pictures.

Re: new kitchen cabinet help needed

Just saw spambot fun... Hate that crap. Anyway, good info I don't feel like deleting below.

Don't scoff... I do high end residential architecture for a living and one of the tricks we use when a client doesn't want to spend $100k on a new kitchen is that we use Ikea base cabinets and just have new fronts made for them (you can order the cabinets without the fronts). The good part about this is that the Ikea hardware is made by Blum, who actually makes the best hardware for kitchens IMHO. You can outfit the drawers with the Blum Orgaline series. Also, if for whatever reason you need to replace something, you can quickly order from Ikea. Ikea routinely has 20% off sales on the kitchen cabinets...

This is a really great option if you want to go with a more modern look, but it works well for more classic looking cabinets as well. (It's all about the fronts you choose).

Manufacturer of Cabinet Doors, Dovetail Drawer Boxes, RTA Cabinet Kits... Scherr's Cabinet and Doors _-One of the places that can make the doors you want.

Modern Crafts - Modern fronts. I have samples in my office which are very nice. If you go this route, tell them you won't do business with them unless they provide you a phone contact number. We were going to use them for a project, and their factory is in MSP, but they wouldn't give me proper contact information until it was too late and we had moved on.

So do I get points or credits for a post on a spambot produced thread or just some stupid coupons?
