JUCO Dline - for or against ???

So I was just taking a look at Rivals JUCO top 50 list. I was a little surprised at the amount of Dlinemen on it and more surprised at our lack of offers to them from us, I know we are hot/cold on JUCO recruiting, but with our lack of productivity from this position this year I would think we would be after instant help.... What is everyones take???

    For?

I think there are a few positions on the football field where a JUCO can fairly easily have an immediate impact. Those are Dline, WR, Safety and maybe Oline.

With as tough as it is recruiting DLs, I'd be all for recruiting 1 JC DE and 1 JC DT every year. Every single year at least until ISU can recruit on equal footing with at least mid-level BCS teams (if that ever happens). ISU needs a better DL if it wants to compete and that's not something that we can wait 3 years for.

For only if you have a freshman coming in. You do not build depth through JUCOs, you build it through development. You need to have guys developing. In this case we have them coming in so I am fine with 2-3 JUCO Dlinemen.

I'm all for it, as long as we can pick up an O-line that can stand their ground when the qb needs time to pass as well.

Cameron Newton who is leading on a lot of early heisman trophy watch lists might disagree and say qb is easy too!!!!

Thats how he built K-State from a Big 12 bottom feeder into a perennial Top 20 program.

Re: JUCO Dline - for or against ???

Much of our future in next two-three years hinges on the juco DL recruiting. I think we all agree we have a solid LB core that along with those redshirting should be Big 12 worthy for the next several years. Similarly I have confidence we the bodies in today to give us a strong secondary in the coming years. However, all of that doesn't matter if we have a weak DL.

Even if we bring in future stud HS players this year for the DL, they won't be ready to compete against TX, OK etc. till our current crop of LB's are graduated. For me the only option is Juco DT/DE's that can step in right away. Good news is we have a number of offers out including the pair that visited during Utah who seem by their comments to be favoring ISU.

Of all the positions, I really think our ability to bring in quality ready to play Juco's in the DL will have more impact on our success in 2011 & 1012 than any other recruits that we are looking at.

Whatever the coaches decide. This is a pointless discussion.
