    - Didn't qualify academically at Tenn. But did at Iowa?
    - Improperly recruited then by Tenn, but it's ok to have him now?

I don't really want to bash the kid, but it would seem he's a little on the "high maintenance" side of things.

I suspect the only thing more dirty than college football is college basketball. Way too much money at stake for the institutions to run things clean.

Could that be because he went to prep school for a year prior to going to Iowa?

Did he? (I'm guessing so, but have no idea)

I didnt (really) mean that to be a condemnation of iowa. It just wasn't laid out in the article - or I missed it.

The whole thing came off as more of a bad image for Tenn, actually.

I thought that too ... the whole conclusion of Tenn mis-handling the recruiting, not knowing the coach and Smith not making the grades somehow makes it a match made in heaven 2 years later? I didn't follow the author's line of thinking ... not that I really give a crap either way.
