Ankeny's offense is so complex unless AL has played them recently and has an endzone view of the way they will be blocked they will struggle to stop them. I also realize that Ebertowski is very good and hasn't been stopped yet. If AL wins it will be very high scoring or Ankeny will have a ton of turnovers. A few years ago Waukee played Ankeny(1st time in 4A) in the playoffs and got embarrassed (55-7) even though they probably had a more talented team with Walker Woods and Jake Knott. Last year it was a 2 overtime game. I could be wrong.

Harlan is a great 3A team, but they would never win a title in 4A. I'm sure that they could beat the bottom half of 4A schools, but teams like Dowling and ICH this year and Valley and Ankeny most years is a different animal all together.
Not so fast my friend, never is a long time. Heelan won the 4A title in 1982 with a 3A enrollment. While it would be highly unlikely, imo it could happen.

And how many state titles? It ain't Harlan's fault they used to play 4-a ball.

Not saying Harlan doesn't have one of the top programs in the state, but to have 4 D1 players over 20 years is nothing
Yes it is!!! How many titles with 4 D-1 athletes in 20 years is good then?

Re: Just some random highschool love for harlan...

    Harlan football program >>> Valley's

However many D-1 players you produce should almost be the OPPOSITE of how good your program is. As in: we're winning state title after state title without those top quality players. But I can definitely see how it works both ways.

How can you say Harlan would never win a state title in 4A? Thats stupid to even argue... How many teams could bump up a class and win a title? Uhh. hardly none.

Not sure what, if anything, this has to do with my post. A question was asked and answered about players.

But since you bring it up; I think that since 1980 Heelan would've won more than two titles and six runners up trophies had they been playing to their enrollment (3A).

Just like I think and posted that Harlan could win a 4A title.

Thanks for the reply. You do bring up a good point about Ankeny's schemes and run fakes. IMO AL has betters athletes at nearly every posistion, but I could see Ankeny's discipline and scheme evening things up a bit. I know the lynx still have a lot to prove to everyone, I just hope they can remain focused. Its going to be a good one, I'm looking forward to seeing it play out.

So much for Ankeny pounding AL... Harlan would easily hang with most teams in the CIML.. There is usually one or two really good teams, and whole bunch of average football played here.... Dowling, typically Valley, thats it.. Then Iowa City schools along with Bettondorf are the class of 4a.

Please check if you want I never said anything about Harlan, I thought AL was a paper lion they are not. Harlan is a GREAT football program, clearly the class of 3A. I went to a small school who played against Palmer in basketball every year in the 80's. I know there are smaller schools every once in a while that can hang with the largest schools. I am sure some of Harlan's best teams ever would have to rank right up there with some of the best Iowa HS teams of all time.
