I like this move, but heaven help the Cubs if Sanberg goes somewhere else and wins. this is a ballsy move. And knowing the Cubs it will come back to haunt them.

Not sure I like it on the surface but may be the best with the type of team we have right now. I like Quade though, stand up guy, just hard to swallow when guys like Torre and Girardi are possibilities.

I was all for Ryno being manager, but if hes livid its pure selfishness. He has not done anything to earn this over Quade yet. Take a job as bench coach and earn your role.

    Re: Quade named Cubs manager

My top choice was Girardi, but I figure that was a long-shot. I like this hire.

I hope Ryno does become the bench coach.

Girardi was my top choice as well, but I knew it was pretty wishful thinking.

2nd choice would have been either Quade or Ryno. I had no preference either way.

I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out both those guys told the Cubs don't bother and that's why the Cubs pulled the trigger. Torre is old enough to just retire and Girardi has a pretty good thing going right now. I hope the reports of Ryno being a bench coach are true. I want him to stay in the organization. I'd hate to see him go somewhere else like Toronto.

This. Perfect hire. The team will not have that high of expectations the next couple years, they are kind of in a transitional phase right now. Quade nows the team, the players seem to like him, and he's several million cheaper then Torre or Girardi.

For the people that want Torre or Girardi can I ask why? It's not that hard to manage when you have the payroll of the Yankees, Torre does not like playing younger guys, and is about ready to retire, what benefit would he have given the Cubs?

As for Sandberg, thank God he's not manager. I wanted nothing to do with him.

As a White Sox fan I really don't care who manages the Cubs. But it just seemed like Ryno was being groomed to replace Pinella. I am sure Ryno felt he was...now he might not get another shot at the Cubs job! Quade might be great and be there for 10 years! Or Ryno might move on to another organization and end up getting a shot at managing in a different city?

Very true. We have no idea what those guys said/or would've said. Technically Girardi can't talk to the cubs until the WS is over but we all know conversations still happen off the record.

Quade has pretty much gone the same route that Ryno has through the Cubs system, except he is about 2-3 years ahead of him on that route...

    Re: Quade named Cubs manager

So if Ryno has talked to the Blue Jays, you can look for him to win a World Series there in the next couple of years.

There doesn't have to be logic to it for it to happen. The last 100+ years say it's about to happen.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!
