The year of the beat-down ...

I didn't expect to see any 50+ point poundings in the CPR era. But two in the same season? Never saw it coming.

OU was one, who was the other this season?

We haven't had two. Iowa we lost by 28 and Utah we lost by 41. But yes I do get your point. I didn't expect to see them in the Rhoads Era either.

Well, on the flip side, we also scored 50 pts on a Big 12 opponent for the first time in a very long time. And also shut out a team for the first time in quite awhile as well.

But, yes, I didn't expect to see us getting blown out 2 weeks in a row.

Re: The year of the beat-down ...

I didnt expect it, but we probably should have. We had 25 point losses to TAMU and OSU last year, who were a clear level down from what OU and Utah are this year. A blowout of greater proportions isnt entirely unexpected when you consider that. Neither of those teams was ranked in the final AP poll, and Okie state was ranked 25 in the coaches poll. And iowa is better than last year.

I won't be surprised if we are beat by 40 or more next week, to make it three weeks in a row.

Re: The year of the beat-down ...

I just don't understand why we don't try something beyond a fake punt to mix things up. How about a couple of jail-break blitzes, because who cares if they score in one play or 6 plays, it would be nice to see the opposing quarterback crap their pants at least once. And technically, you could consider the Utah game a 50+ beating since we were down 68-14 before garbage time.

    68 minus 27 equals 50+?

Seeing as it was 44-20 midway through the 3rd, I doubt that was possible.

Really? Have you ever been an Iowa State team before? Losing by 50 should never be shocking to us. Sometimes crap happens. We aren't losing by 50 to bad teams.

I am shocked that so many people expect Rhoads to be such a quick fix.

Our very thin roster is tired and beat up right now. Which is why we can hang with Utah for 1 quarter then get blown out.
