So I was reading some more and it was just announced today that Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood is going to be the leading acts at the DC concert. When was the last time he did a concert?

Live earth? Wow, a bunch of celebs will feel good about themselves for a day while not really accomplishing anything. Probably causing more environmental damage than they are reversing on this day.

Until we get india and china to agree on pollution standards, all of this is not going to do any good.

Nice optimism about the future. Hope you can pass that on to your kids.

Way to pass the buck there bud, WE haven't even agreed to reductions, and by your posts I would venture to guess you're not writing your congressman to change that...but hey, apparently creating global is now on the shoulders of the global leaders in China and India...

Haven't we reshashed the global warming issue over and over and over, it is almost as tired as the religious debates on here.

These concerts are great. Don't you remember when they had that Katrina concert? New Orleans is in great shape now. Thanks Celebrities!

I'm willing to bet with all the people driving to these concerts that they create more global warming than they reduce.

If I'm not mistaken, China now produces more CO2 than we do.

    Re: Live Earth

I am going to watch some of it, I love promoting a green environment. I am hoping to hear that Al Gore and the other Hollywood types fly coach or drive an electric car to the event. I fully expect they will all travel in carbon belching private jets. Like that hypocrite John Edwards likes to say "there are two Americas" that would be one for me and my rich liberal friends and one for the rest of you.

Yep. Nothing like an awareness event to make the public more "aware" when the public has been made so "aware" in the past that the majority of them are getting ****** off because it's all they want to shove down their throats.

You brought it up. DareDevil just posted about the concert he didn't start a global warming debate.

Well I replaced all the lightbulbs in my house now with those nice mercury filled compact flourescents. That is all we have to do solve this problem right?

Well, the concert is simply meant to raise awareness and money for the cause of saving the world from apathy. By your example if your neighbor was not mowing his lawn would you stop mowing yours? Just because some other countries are not necessarily going to immediately follow suit doesn't mean we shouldn't make changes for the greater good. They are certainly doing no more pollution than we were doing through the last 100 years while we industrialized. Can you imagine breathing in a world where every country produces as much waste and pollution as the United States and people cared about it as little as they do here?

Maybe celebrities and politicians should just ignore these issues like the rest of us. Maybe if we all try real hard to believe they aren't happening then they really won't. Ignorance is so bliss.
