    A conversation with: Bobby Lutz

I had a great chat with assistant men's basketball coach Bobby Lutz yesterday. Seems like an awesome guy. Here's what we discussed.

Bobby Lutz is exactly what Freddy needed to transition into a head coach. I am still very excited by this hire. Plus, he has a pretty sweet mustache.....

    Huge pick-up by Fred.
This guy has 400 wins, and won around 20 games las year. Heck, a few years ago he would have been considered hard to get as a head coach for schools like Iowa and ISU. It is like having a Fran McCaffery type as your assistant coach.

Exactly. Of all the "recruits" that Freddie has snagged, Lutz is probably the most important.

I think the entire coaching staff should grow mustaches. That would really be the ultimate jab at McD since I read that he could not grow facial hair do to an incident when he was younger! Cyclone Mustaches in 2010-2011!

So taking jabs at McD would be cool for the current staff?

Nope...And really glad Fred has steered way clear of doing anything like that.

Im guessing taking public jabs at a decent man would be viewed as a negative. Maybe Im wrong here.

This seems clueless. You're clearly missing the awesomeness.

I really like the comment on Fred being such a smart man. He and Coach Rhoads both have that in common and I think it's a very important trait when trying to avoid the land mines you run into the first few years at programs that haven't won in a while.

I think Fred is one of the sharper tacks we've ever had as a player and coach.

Very much so. Not only are they intellectual, but they are down to earth and do a great job of being approachable. Im excited with this coaching staff. Seems like Fred picked some great guys with a good history.

Personally I would like to completely forget about our former coach and the last 4 years of garbage.
