    22 Starters-3 Coaches-Who recruited who?

Does someone with better memory or access to information than I able to assemble a list designating who the 22 starters were recruited by? Watching AA struggle through his career of the occasional good game, sprinkled with spotty performances and some really bad performances, I can 't help but wonder how many of McCarney's products are making contributions this year. And Chizek's/Rhoads. Rhoads/Herman/Burnham have been bringing in SPEED which has been the greatest downfall of Cyclone teams past (and depth). In the past few years, the number of NFL prospects coming out of Ames has been very telling. McCarney was not a good evaluator of talent or did not have the ability to recruit that type of talent, consistently. I have hopes for Rhoads. Recruiting is key to success.

This thread demonstrates that it is not an overnight process for a new staff to recruit players to fit their system.

I'm kind of shocked by how many DMac players are starting. H would really only have one class left (redshirt seniors) wouldn't he? Maybe a few non-redshirt seniors, depending on when they committed.

The bulk of our starters are almost always going to be 4th and 5th year guys. There's only four players still on the team from the 2007 transition class, so the weight falls on the 5th year guys that were recruited in Mac's last full class.

This is the way it is suppose to be. Whenever a freshman or JUCO comes in and is starting right away, it is a pretty good sign that the program is in trouble at that position. That or the player is very, very good, which does happen.

No reason to be shocked. Dmac did a good job here. Wasn't perfect by any means but he made ISU FB relevant again. Dmac recruited some good players, his biggest problem were the classes where 2/3 of the players were gone after a couple of years (and recruiting OL).

That's why I'm shocked. The fact that we had three coaches in a four year period would lead you to believe that there were problems at many positions.

I think that class had like 12 or 13 JC as they scrambled to fill the class so that is part of the 25. Still a low percentage of HS recruits that stuck around. Also, wasn't that the other Sandvig (Alex?) in that class? So it might be only 3 left.

12 of those 25 were JUCO players and only Alvarez and Fraklin were three year guys. 7 of the 12 JUCOs played quality minutes. Most of the JUCOs were last minute grabs after the coaching change

    Re: 22 Starters-3 Coaches-Who recruited who?

I will say that the Chizik Jucos from the 07 class paned out fairly well. Not great players, but most of them played a significant role during their stint.

Doug Dedrick came in and played LT right away. That guy only had 1 year of eligibility to use at ISU. Good move by the Chiz, but that also really put a crunch of the # of bodies available on the roster.

What class was Neil a part of? He's only a Jr if I'm not mistake.
