    Halladay Postseason No-Hitter

I'm surprised this isn't being talked about here. Is baseball taking that much of a backseat to everything?

Only the 2nd time in 2,500 playoff games (and 2nd in 105 years) this has happened.

Halladay threw a perfect game earlier this year and follows it up with a no-no in the playoffs...wow, what a season!

Has anyone else ever thrown 2 no-hitters in 1 season before? Pretty impressive by any standard.

Football rules and baseball season officially ends when football season starts. I don't know anyone but east coasters that pay attention to baseball once football starts. They might watch a game of the World Series but that is it.

The no-hitter basically broke twitter last night. There are people who want to talk about it, but this is a site for fanatic cyclone fans and the local media is telling you not to care...

Johnny Vander Meer actually threw back-to-back no-hitters.

Johnny VanderMeer of the Reds went back-to-back a long time ago (1938?)

I'm suprised too. Should be getting huge pub. It was an outstanding feat last night for Halladay in the playoffs.

Did it feel like they waited too long to get the playoffs even started? Why did they have to wait til Wednesday to start 'em up. I mean it was Oct. 6th last evening....why can't they get these things going? I think this has a lot to do with Baseball taking a back seat as well.

    Get those games going.

That was a thing of beauty last night. I hate the Phillies and even I was rooting for him to finish it.

They have to build a small buffer in there for makeup games or tiebreakers

I think its more of the latter than the former. I listened to about 20 minutes of the crap on KXNO this morning and it wasn't mentioned once. I flipped to Mike & Mike and they were talking about that and the bad call at the end of the Yankees/Twins game.

Halladay made that look easy too. I watched from about the 5th inning on and there wasn't anything that came close to a hit. Usually you get the great play, amazing catch, etc. that saves a no-hitter. Not last night...that was dominate. And against a team that lead the NL in average and home runs I believe.

I went back and watched the condensed game. It seemed Halladay only missed on a few pitches. He has basically developed into a Greg Madduz type pitcher that throws MUCH harder. 95 that tails that much to the corner is IMPOSSIBLE to hit. I really think an All Star team would have had a hard time mustering a hit last night against Doc.

Local media isn't the only one. Sportscenter at 10:00 last night started with what seemed like 10 solid minutes of Randy Moss talk.

    Bingo.

ESPN carries Monday Night Football and none of the playoffs. Of course they would cover the Moss trade first, the same reason they are tanking their baseball coverage. They are more interested in making money than they are giving the people what they want.

Well I will agree there, ESPN definitely pushes their programming.

That said, baseball is a distant second to football. There is absolutely no denying it, especially here in Iowa.

    Re: Halladay Postseason No-Hitter

There was an article I found a few weeks ago showing that baseball is more popular when you consider the totals. The Rangers just signed a $3billion deal just for local tv rights. Even the Rays who can't get people to go to games are looking at a $100,000,000/yr local tv deal. Football has the advantage of being one day a week so you have the anticipation, but to say it has passed far by baseball is misleading.
