Mike & Mike and Sweet Caroline

Mike Golic, Notre Dame graduate and NFL defensive lineman that played for the tough Buddy Ryan and next to greats like Reggie White and Clyde Simmons and brother of the Saved By the Bell: The College Years legend Bob Golic, just said that Sweet Caroline is one of the great stadium sing-a-long songs. Just saying.

This doesn't change much. Some people like Sweet Caroline, others still won't like it, no matter how many TV personalities say they like or don't like it.

This is why it's an opinion. I don't like Sweet Caroline. Golic or CPR saying they like it doesn't make me like it more, nor would them saying they hate it make me like it less.

Re: Mike & Mike and Sweet Caroline

You can not like it all you want, but for the people that claim that it negatively effects the players are just stupid. In the last week now I've heard our head coach and a former NFL player (on the defensive line, nonetheless) say they like it. If you just don't like it and that's your reason for not liking it being played, that's fine, because that IS your opinion.

I would be curious to get a poll from our players on what they think (obviously it's not a big deal, but just as sort of a light-hearted thing). Are you listening, Chris? Make it happen!

agreed. If I don't like something then I don't like it, period. Celebrities or such are not going to instantly change my opinion.

Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Same here. Its stupid to play it in a football stadium and it always will be. Nothing will ever change that.

When I am flipping through the channels and see an episode from that era of the series...I can't get myself to stop changing the channel! Horrible! Still entertained by the post-Miss Bliss/pre-college years though!

Opinions are like a$$holes. Everyone has one and they all stink. Mine included.

With that said, I am all for Sweet Caroline being played and have been since I saw players getting into it. It has even become a big favorite on our boat or at parties.

It most definitely belongs in sports stadiums. Whether it is football, baseball, basketball, whatever. Gets the crowd going and affects the players in a positive way

Re: Mike & Mike and Sweet Caroline

Okay, please excuse me for being so out of the loop, but what is the origin of using Sweet Caroline at games in the first place? I had thought it was something that McCarney liked and perhaps that's why it was done.

Can anyone explain the origin and reasoning for playing it at any stadium and specifically how it became so popular at Jack Trice?

    Thanks.

I'm with you on this one, unfortunately it looks like we're stuck with it.

How about we throw some Barry Manilow in as well? I'm sure we could get the players and students to dance to Copacabana. Hell, playing Looks Like We Made It wouldn't be a bad choice lyrics-wise after a big win. JTS would be rockin' out.

I prefer some Bieber in there. What better way to get the female fans involved in the game?
