UT might encourage Mack Brown to retire

Staring at 4 straight loses (yeah that's right I said 4), Texas may be forcing Mack Brown out the door on order to keep Will Muschamp.

Texas's cooridnators are payed like HC's, Muschamp isnt going anywhere. But if you're right about that 4th loss the Horn fans may be calling for everyones head.

I could see Muschamp getting antsy and going after the Georgia position if it opens. Especially since he played there and grew up in the state. If that happened...and then Texas creates an opening...might Chizik end up at Texas?

They are paid very well, however it's on the lower end of the head coaching scale. If he were to go to Georgia, he would make at least double then what he is making now. I think his salalry is 900K, He will most likely make 2 million somewhere as a head coach, at least.

    1. chizdick won't leave auburn until he is asked to leave
    2. Texas wouldn't take chizdick. The fans were glad he left when he did.

Muschamp would be a fool to jump ship early. Texas has all the inherent benefits that only a handful of schools can equal.

That would be good. What's he ever done for them?

Oh, yeah, brought their program back and won a National Title.

A loss at undefeated Nebraska could be forgiven by the fans but if we go down there and beat them and make them 3-4, expect the meltdown to be nuclear

Also why in the hell is Texas worried about retaining Muschamp. If he flies I'm sure they would have a pick of the litter of more proven coaches.

Re: UT might encourage Mack Brown to retire

If Muschamp took the Georgia job, he'd be just another fish in the SEC pond. If all programs are running at their best down there, Georgia is no better than the 4th best in that conference behind 'Bama, Florida, and LSU and you can make an argument for Auburn as well. As the article mentions, he could go to Georgia and hope Texas comes calling when Brown does step down, but you have to think his replacement might want the same "coach in waiting" deal he's got. If Muschamp is smart, he'll bide his time and wait for the keys to THE Cadillac program in college football.

Also, I seriously doubt anybody is going to be looking to run Brown after one down season. I suppose if they had a losing record I could see it, but really, the guy had them in the national championship game 9 months ago and he's built up a TON of good will down there. This team is down but the Texas program is in outstanding shape and Brown could probably run for governor and win if he wanted to. Go to ESPN.com's archives and read the article Forde wrote last month about Brown and his running of the program. He's tight with Dodds and several big boosters. He's cultivated a ton of good relationships in the state. I'd be stunned if they cut him anytime soon. Texas would be wise to remember what kind of shape they were in before ol' Mack came along.

I'm a casual UT fan but I have to admit I'd love for ISU to cause Def Con 5 Global Killing Nuclear Event in Austin.

This is true. All their fan sites will crash and Texags (A&M fan site) will crash trying to make fun of UT.

    Exactly.

Why must all of this fall on Mack Brown? Certainly he knows how to coach, clearly proven by his record. Could it be some of the players are not executing as well this season? His staff members are not on their game?

The simpleton way is to blame one person for the failures - because if you take care of that it's the quick fix! Reality is, in football program, the problems are rarely, if ever - one man's fault.

Agreed. Just as they could call their shot regarding the conference alignment, they can pick pretty much any coach. I'd contend that if they wanted - they could lure Stoops away from OU, Kelly away from ND and possibly Saban away from Alabama. The last one being a stretch. :)

You can't always get what you want and sometimes even a program like Texas has an off year. It happens. Deal with it and move on.

But no - lets just start whacking people knee-jerk style.

If Texas asked Chizik to be their coach...he would take that job in a heartbeat! Why would he be loyal to Auburn? Just because they gave him a chance to be their head coach?

Chizik coached there...he has had two head coaching positions and has enjoyed some success at Auburn so they could certainly look his way if they did not retain Brown and Muschamp in some scenario.
