    Mahoney

IMO, most improved player on the team - or at least he's in the top 3. What a difference it makes to have some reliability kicking field goals. But just as important - all the touchbacks. HUGE! Over half of the kickoffs Saturday were touchbacks, right? One somewhat does not count as a penalty ensured it would be - but that kick would have been a touchback anyway, IMO. Was nice the offense gave him plenty of opportunities to show off the skills.

Some NFL teams will actually keep a kickoff specialist on their roster just for that and we all know how valuable roster spots are in the NFL. It's a big, big part of the game and Mahoney is really coming thru for us.

It also doesn't suck the kid can run and is a threat on the fake field goal at any time. :)

I look forward to him having the opportunity to line up for a big kick this season and knocking the thing thru!

    He has been perfect lately

Cant believe more people haven't been talking about him. Such confidence he has been kicking with lately.

Hopefully you didn't jinx him. He has been fanatastic this season. I had my doubts about him after last year but he has really stepped it up big time. And those touchbacks are a blessing considering how poor our KO coverage has been this year.

I disagree with you about hoping he gets a big time kick. I for one hope any victory we have is by a TD or more and we never have to have our kicker decidng the game. Just makes it easier on my heart

    Re: Mahoney

If Chizik did anything right when he was here it was spending a scholarship on a kicker. I'll never understand why coaches don't do it. A good kicker is a legit tool to have. It sucks him and Guyer are both juniors already.

Actually spent scholarships on 2 in the same year, with the kid from Johnston. I thought that was a great move by the Chiz.

I wonder if he can punt.

I didnt look to see if either of Tech's kickers were on scholarship but watching them kickoff and attempt a fg made me absolutely cringe. I couldnt believe the kid was short going with the wind on his FG. Grant sank a 61 pregame with the wind and multiple 50+. I think this game was a complete team effort, everyone seemed to be clicking. Saw a text before the game from a player. "We are ready today. Everyone just feels on today. Were gonna get this one." Hopefully they all feel on next week too.

In addition to kicking, he's leading in special teams tackles too

I think we are getting exactly what you should expect from a true freshman punter. Inconsistency.

But he's got 2 first downs on fakes. Also had a 50 yard average against K-State. I'm in his corner and with the improvements Mahoney has made, I believe our special teams staff will have Van Der Kamp doing the same.
