    Barry Bonds an All-Star????

You got to be kidding me. He needed 119k votes in two days to take it as a starter. Alfonso Soriano had the lead. HE TOOK IT BY 123K votes tonight. IS THIS A FRICKIN JOKE????? Someone out there explain this to me. You can't even rapid fire the votes. THIS WAS ALL RIGGED BECAUSE HE IS GOING FOR 755. I am ******

Bonds, who's five home runs short of tying Hank Aaron's all-time record of 755, was in fourth place when the final voting update was announced last Monday. He trailed Alfonso Soriano of the Chicago Cubs, 1,332,581-1,213,423. In the final vote total, Bonds had 2,325,391 to Soriano's 2,202,513.

It is ridiculous. Much like how Aramis Ramirez's walkoff homerun on Friday was bumped to SportsCenter's #2 play of the day by a ho-hum HR by Barroid in a game that his team lost.

    1) Why get legitimately ****** over the All-Star game starters?
    2) Bonds has been more productive than Soriano this year

I was under the impression this was an all-star game, not a home run derby.

    Re: Barry Bonds an All-Star????

Still, I'm just tired of all the hoopla over Barry Bonds. Why not rig Barry Bonds into the All-Star Game? Say Barry Bonds catches fire in the next few days and gets to number 755, and then smacks 756 in, of all places, the ALL STAR GAME! This would give the media something to talk about for weeks until the story gets old.

Well, any HR's hit in the All-Star game don't count toward player stats.

However, we should have all seen this coming seeings how the game is being played in SF.

    Re: Barry Bonds an All-Star????

Statistics from the All-Star game do not count towards a player's numbers. It is an exhibition that MLB is foolishly trying to give meaning to by awarding homefield advantage in the World Series to the winning league.

Uh-oh. The Cubs fans are mad.

Barry would have made the team anyway. Every team has to have a representative (yes, even the Cubs), so I'm sure Barry would have been chosen as the Giants representative. I think having Bonds start in his home field is a nice way to honor him since he'll be the Homerun King soon.

Plus, Bonds' numbers are better than Soriano's this year anyway, although its close. Bonds is also clean this year (probably), so he's doing what he's doing this year without the 'roids.

I could care less about Bonds getting in over Soriano. Not the biggest deal in the world.

I did see that Sosa didn't get in even though he has the third most RBI's in the AL. Oh well. He's still batting .255 or something like that.

I'm a huge Cubs fan and if Soriano would have won the starting job, I was hoping he would take a back seat and let Bonds have the starting spot in his home ballpark.

    Re: Barry Bonds an All-Star????

This is all done by fan vote (including internet balloting)...and I think we all know how to "work" that system (can anyone say most dominant mascot?)...obviously, there was a concerted get out the vote effort on behalf of Barry.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.
