The Big 12 is not good...we may surprise...

Who would've guessed that TX and OK would be as bad as they are?

    Not me.

Our schedule is a lot easier than it was on paper prior to the season.

Yes, the teams that we feared were better than us still are, but they are not nearly as good as I feared they would be.

We have a punchers chance in several games this year. Now, if we can throw a punch is another story, but I feel a lot better about our schedule than I did when the season started.

Texas and OU are not quite up to expectations yet, but they both have a ton of talent. Utah is looking every bit as good as expected, if not better. I'm not sure what to make of Nebby. I thought they were overrated to start the year, then thought they were a top 5 team as I watched them dismantle (a very overrated UW) only to be scratching my head again after SDSU.

All in all, I see what you're saying and agree that ISU has a chance to compete with some teams that many would say will blow us off the field. I wish we had Texas and/or OU at home this year, especially Texas. Right now they seem to think they can throw their unis out there and beat teams. Of course, by the time we see them, they'll probably have righted the ship and be clicking on all cylinders.

Texas is down as expected but I doubt there is anyone that wants to play them. And OU has tons of talent. They are playing to their competetion right now

Texas and OK may be down somewhat, but after watching last night's game between A&M and OK St., I am not sure the league is down overall; those two teams are very good and will give Texas and OK all they can handle and maybe more.

Re: The Big 12 is not good...we may surprise...

I love the original post here. That's what Tim Sitzmann and I talked about in our weekly video.

Even IF Iowa State loses tomorrow night, some of the games down the road are much more winnable than what we thought they'd be back in July. Heck, Texas could be on a 3-game losing streak when the Cyclones roll into town. If this offense gains a pulse, the Clones could win some of these things. That's a major if though.

Re: The Big 12 is not good...we may surprise...

The conference isn't down. The best two teams are probably just different than usual. I don't think Texas or OK will be the champ. I think it will be OKSt. or aTm. By logical reasoning I would say our schedule is actually a break. From what I have seen, we don't play the best two in the conference.

As this pertains to us and our conference season: tomorrow night has no bearing on how good we are in terms of win/loss. Tech is that type of team that could beat or lose to anyone. The lone exception is the offense. Defense is defense. Either you can beat it or you can't. On offense for a team like Tech, if they are off just a touch, they may struggle. If they are on, they could smoke anyone. Win or lose, I will likely only take something away from our offense.

It's all snark from here on out

Re: The Big 12 is not good...we may surprise...

The conference as a whole has more parity, Texas is only 20-25 ranking good and yet Iowa State will be lucky to get another 2-3 wins, if that. I'd be happy to be proven wrong, I wouldn't put money on it though.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

That was an exciting football game lst night, but OK State and A&M are two very undisciplined teams that could potentially turn the ball over 12 times a game.
Neither of them are elite teams the way OK and TX usually are.

    The conference is down.

Re: The Big 12 is not good...we may surprise...

    Conventional wisdom as usual...

Team A only beat Team B 21-14. Team A traditionally would have won 50-0. Team A will automatically play poorly against every team they play.

    Or the classic...

Team A beat Team B. Team B beat Team C. Team A automatically beats Team C.

Come on guys. It's college football. Even if Texas and Oklahoma were national title contenders (which Oklahoma still could be), on any given Saturday we have a chance at beating them.

We are reading too much into to what happens week to week. By this same analogy, I would say our offense will NEVER do anything all season.

I would say either Nebby or K-State will factor into the North and OU or OSU are in the drivers seat in the south.
