    Why ISU could win

Is everyone aware that ISU is 10th in the nation in pass defense? Are you aware that we are 13th in Pass Efficiency Defense?

I'm sure some will be quick to point out that many of the teams we played have more of a run threat, which is why I always like to look at what a team is averaging and then look at what ISU put up against them. Doing so, I have also found that for the season, ISU is holding teams under their average passing, rushing and points. Holding, on average, teams offenses to 3.5 yards rushing, 46.6 passing, 50.1 total and 7.3 scoring under the opponent's season average.

What I find interesting about those numbers is at the same time ISU ranks at 85th in time of possession. This means the defense is on the field a lot and still putting up good numbers. If ISU can get it's offense going their is hope for a great season.

What does this mean for Tech, they may be at risk of being held under 300 yards by ISU. Tech isn't averaging much more than that right now and with almost no running game this may be a tough one for Tech. It really depends on our offense, however, Tech isn't doing very well against the pass so maybe we can open it up this week. To give you an idea, NIU is better against the pass than Tech, our season high was against NIU at 265 yards.

In the end I think we can win this. I think the numbers speak in our favor, but we have to score points which means the offense has to open up the passing game.

I'll be the first to say "that's because other teams RUN right over ISU and don't have to pass".

Other than that, I'm with you.

Tech is averaging 70 yards per game right now. I wouldn't worry about being ran over to much in this game...

Ubben says ISU's defense is "criminally overrated." Dont think it is that bad, but teams just run the ball and lets be honest, aside from Stanzi, Potts will be the best QB we have faced to this point.

    Re: Why ISU could win

Our defense has played well. The thing I'm most impressed with is that we're not allowing big plays. We're also playing well in the red zone. We are undertalented on the defensive line, but our linebackers and defensive backs are doing a heck of a job.

I was right there with you Cyrocks until I read the bolded part of his post. It is not ENTIRELY doom and gloom.

How can they be "criminally overrated" when everyone says they suck???

That doesn't affect the pass efficiency numbers though. Opposing teams are completing 51.2% of passes against ISU. Doesn't matter if that's over 1000 attempts or 100, 51% is 51%.

    Re: Why ISU could win

ISU has a shot no doubt, in fact a great shot and should win if the offense gets rolling and gives the defense a break. Key number is 28 IMO.
