    Cory Johnson MVP so far?

I remember last yr thinking how i hope he loses the baby fat in a yr or two, amazingly it looks like he has lost all of it already. I hope G Mac finds a way to get him more playing time this season. It was frustrating last yr when he wouldnt put him in, especially when no one was was doing anything. Theres just instant pick up n action when he comes in. Also i think Garrett has been my favorite newcomer so far, sures hes a twig, but the way he operates with the ball is sweet.

There's no doubt, CJ works harder than anyone on the team, and it's really nice that people recognize that.

Re: Cory Johnson MVP so far?

I'm hoping McD can develop Cory Johnson like he did with Grant Stout. Stout averaged 3 ppg as a freshman at UNI and 11 ppg as a soph.

CJ averaged 4.2 ppg last year, had the highest FG percentage of any returning player at 53% and is the only returning player who had a positive assist-turnover ratio.

By the time he's a senior he'll be an all time favorite. Not an all time great but an all time favorite.

    MVP of what?

From what I saw last year, this kid has very limited ability (lacks speed, quickness, and agility in my opinion)...he had better be a hard worker!

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

I completely disagree with that. He looked like he probably didn't know what he was doing at times last year, as he learned the new system, but I thought he had good agility for his size, and was a very worthwhile recruit who shows the work ethic he needs to get better.

Re: Cory Johnson MVP so far?

I think he's a very good player, but he never got the minutes to play consitently well. He played better than anyone couldve imagined against Oden. CyPride is right in I think he was learning a new system out there so he looked lost quite a bit. He will be a good player down the road.

Re: Cory Johnson MVP so far?

I think that Cory can learn to do a lot of things very well, but honestly, he is a physically limited player. I think he'll be able to score well but I don't think he'll ever rebound at a high rate in the Big 12 because I don't know if he has the hops.

He can be an excellent position rebounder though so once he learns that I expect he'll be very valuable.

Re: Cory Johnson MVP so far?

Isn't Cory the 3rd leading scorer in all time minnesota history? If so, it is obvious he was a "scorer" in high school. I believer Cory's game has much more it than people know. He isn't just a big body that rebounds. He wants the ball and he wants to score. He'll get more opportunites when his positioning, footwork, and understanding of McD's system improve.

Re: Cory Johnson MVP so far?

Cory is the 4th leading scorer in Minnesota history, but I think there are 2 or 3 kids on pace right now to pass him. That being said, he played SF in high school and he's primarily an interior player for McD. I think it'll take last year and this offseason to have him get in the groove playing down low. I agree he has a plethora of offensive ability, and if he were 3 inches taller he could be a potential NBA'er.

Yeah, but he used his brain to get position and stay ahead on defense.

cyclone#1 so your saying Oden is way overrated

since corey whipped him when they played . He was blowing by him at will and outhustling him big time. He was in a new experince and like i said had the baby fat and didnt have the stanima needed for big conference play.Hopefully he has worked hard on his stanima cause i think hes the type of player that needs to play alot to get in his groove.

According to the MSHSL...no. Here are the top scorers:

    1)3366 Isaiah Dahlman, Braham, 2002-2006
    2)3292 Joel McDonald, Chisholm, 1987-1991
3)3013 Jake Sullivan, Tartan, Oakdale, 2000
    4)2852 Norm Grow, Foley, 1958
    5)2805 Mitch Ohnstad, Faribault, 1996
6)2681 Grant Gunhus, Park Christian, Moorhead, 2000-2005
7)2491 Troy Bell, Academy of Holy Angels, Richfield, 1999
    8)2470 Daniel Fischer, Bagley, 1995
9)2461 Sam Jacobson, Park, Cottage Grove, 1994
    10)2364 Bob Bruggers, Danube, 1962
11)2358 Brian Wiersma, Bethany Academy, Bloomington, 1999
12)2350 Drew Carlson, Belle Plaine, 1999
13)2315 Nick Jacobson, Roseville Area, 1999
    14)2312 Khalid El-Amin, Minneapolis North Community, 1999

I certainly would not say Minnesota is a "hotbed" for HS BB...the Dahlman kid is at Michigan State and has been unimpressive based upon his stats. The only others on this list that did anything were Troy Bell (BC/NBA), Khalid El-Amin (UConn/NBA) and Sam Jacobsen (Minnesota/NBA). I'm not knocking Sullivan...but he was clearly a one dimensional player (spot up shooter) and never really led the team to anything great...the only reason we really know of him is because he went to ISU.

I could not find the name Cory Johnson anywhere in the record book for the MSHSL.

I certainly hope I am wrong about the kid and all of you talking about how he outplayed Greg Oden are right...that would be great for ISU BB! However, the games I saw, showed this guy to be a very limited player.

That data isn't correct. I know Cory is right next to Jake. I can't recall if he is ahead or behind him but he is adjacent in scoring.
