Starting guards for the first few games

We all know Taylor won't be available for the first few games, so who will be our starting guards for those crucial exhibition games and the first games in November?

There are really only 4 contenders: Garrett, Steiger, Brister, Haluska.

Garrett--has the most raw talent of the bunch.

Haluska--the trendy pick based on his performance this summer.

Steiger--looks like he will fit the Gmac mold of a heady player.

Brister--might be the kind of role player that Gmac likes, but he needs to learn how to finish.

Re: Starting guards for the first few games

We don't have many options, but I would think Diante is the starter at PG. To me, the trendy pick is Lucca at the SG early on. I haven't seen Haluska play this summer, but I would my shocked if he ever started a game for us in his career.

For the record, I'm only expecting Taylor to miss 2 exhibition games, and 2 or 3 at the most regular season games so hopefully we can get by in the mean time.

Re: Starting guards for the first few games

I would say we have about six contenders to start back there, Garrett, Brister or Peterson at the point and Haluska or Jacobson, Garrett or Brister at the two. I doubt Peterson, but I wouldn't count out Jacobson starting at the two, he will get less minutes, but he has a year over these guys, not saying he is more talented, but he could still get a starting nod

ohh yea I forgot Lucca, he has a damn good shot as well to start at the 2, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a revolving starting lineup for a little while, figure out which guys r better starters and which guys play better off the bench

Yeah, I am thinking a total of 6 to 8 games, including exhibition. It's gotta be tough, but not so tough that it hurts the team. That is getting close to hurting, but would make a statement too.

Jacobson may never see the floor again.

Re: Starting guards for the first few games

he'll see the floor, it is a real toss up who the guards r going to be, eventually he will prolly be number 6-8, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him get his chance in the first few games, the same goes for Mark Currie, they both gave solid minutes last year along with Ceaser and to say that in some respects they might not do better than an inconsistent freshman early on who is still getting used to everything is pretty bogus. They guy had tons of problems shooting last year, but I still almost think that the walk-ons Peterson, Haluska, Currie, and Jacobson have just as good of shot as any of the newcomers at starting ... that is the point I am trying to make .. eventually I anticipate it being a rotation of Garrett, Taylor, and Brister with Lucca seeing some minutes and Boozer getting redshirted ... but that is all flat out guessing and anyone who thinks they know who will start in the backcourt the first few games is full of ****, cuz know one does ... but I guess it is fun to guess! lol

I know it's difficult to guess, but I just think if our recruits don't do better than the walkons, well enough to start at the beginning of the year even, we may be in some serious trouble.

Was anyone surprised that Adam H was drafted in second round and Tolliver did not get picked?

I think Haluska might start since he has some JUCO experience. It doesnt matter who starts it matters who finishes the game.

Five points a game for Indian Hills must translate well to the Big 12.

I have no problem with Sean, but I find it hard to believe he'll start over Garrett or Staiger.

If Jacobson has a shot at starting, may God help us.

Re: Starting guards for the first few games

I honestly think depending on the number of games, we should probably just start Clark at the 2, granted he is not the greatest ball handler, but I think this line up would work out the best for a short time, Garrett/Brister, Clark, Johnson, Thompson/Brackins, Hubalek, limit the inexperience for a short time, Clark played guard for two years under Morgan, yes he was a wing and we had primary ballhandlers in Blalock and Stinson, but it might work for a short time until Taylor can get back, I just think we need to start the lest inexperience players we can to start out, not saying they aren't talented
