    Orr Statue at Hilton

I haven't seen this posted yet, but...

2:00 Timeout: Orr's Statue Will Be Larger Than Life - Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - The home of Iowa State Cyclone Sports

Whose bright idea was it to have it inside the stadium?

Still, at long last Johnny gets what he deserves!

It should be outside, like at the bottom of the steps on the south side of Hilton. But since the majority of basketball season is in the winter, it might have more appeal inside. More people will stop to take pictures etc. And I'm sure it will look good at the entrance of Johnny's sports bar!

I know they mentioned that Johnny's will be open to donors, but did they ever say what level or donor will have access?

I would think if they really want to make some money they would have it open to more than just high dollar donors......but maybe not.

    Re: Orr Statue at Hilton

Did anyone other than me notice the wording of the description of the new place? "sports bar-themed gathering area" That doesn't say it's a sports bar, like many have said. If indeed it will be some kind of sports bar, then why not say that?

And, no, I haven't seen any more on who's eligible to set foot on the floor since the original story in August Iowa State To Honor Johnny Orr - Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - The home of Iowa State Cyclone Sports That probably means I don't yet qualify.

You have to have donated $10,000+ over a five year period.

    Re: Orr Statue at Hilton

I hope they repair/replace all of the crumbling concrete outside of Hilton, especially the steps and railings at the south entrance, while they're building the sports bar.
Lots of spots around the perimeter of Hilton are embarrassing.

OK, does that include tickets? Actually, $10k over 5 years would include everyone in the parquet.

I never read the description like you, but did see the floor plan and that was one thing that stuck out to me - no kitchen. Now, plenty of space for beverages, but no where for sit down eating sports bar atmosphere.

Although I guess they didn't say bar & grill, so maybe that's my own bad assumption.

I remember how the statue of Jack Trice originally languished in a small courtyard between Carver and Beardshear, quite shrouded by trees, for several years before gaining a more...prominent position.

It wouldn't surprise me if, after the newness has worn off, the statue were eventually moved outside. After all, everywhere, regardless of season, statues are outside the stadium. That way they can be seen at times other than when events are occurring.

I mean, how many people have stopped by to see Jordan's statue outside the United Center in the middle of the summer? Say, not only to see it, but to get their pics taken with it?

    Re: Orr Statue at Hilton

They should just place the main statue of Johnny outside of Hilton, and a smaller replica inside at the sports bar entrance.
    Problem solved.

    Re: Orr Statue at Hilton

I'm pretty sure its not a sports bar. Just themed like one. Its a place where donors can gather (and probably get free food and drink) and I would imagine that any food or drink in there would be catered in.
