    Droid Question

I am eligible for an upgrade for my phone (Verizon Voyager). I plan on getting a Droid with it, but I wanted to ask some questions to people who have them. I want to try to get a good deal on the phone itself in order to make up for the expensive data plan.

Which is the best one to get? I saw the Droid 2 just came out, I have heard the Droid X is the best, Droid Incredible I don't know much about.

For some background I am a college kid on my parents family plan, but I am paying for my plan and phone.

Any advice? How much should I expect to pay? IK it's $30 a month or something for the data plan. TIA.

    Re: Droid Question

I just bought a Droid X and love it. I'm also with Verizon and just became eligible for upgrade, spent $300 on phone before $100 mail in rebate. Spent some more money on extra charger, screen protectors, etc. My last phone was BlackBerry Tour and I'm happy with the change.

I am looking online and it is saying $199, which I am going to assume is just cutting out the mail in rebate.

I'm looking at the Droid 2 and Droid X also. Do you have any problems with the size of the Droid X as far as carrying it in a pocket? It looks significantly larger although I haven't had any hands-on experience with it yet. My officemate has the Droid 2 so I've had a chance to use it a little bit. Seems like a nice phone.

Correct, you will pay 300 in store and have to mail in the 100 rebate which comes in the form of a visa card.

I've only had it for a couple weeks but so far no problems. I was a little concerned about the size also but I haven't had any problems carrying it in front pocket of jeans, pants, etc.

    Re: Droid Question

I have a Droid Incredible and so far I like it. I definitely like that it's smaller than the Droid X and also a bit lighter than the Droid 2 from comparing with my mom's phone. Takes a little bit of getting used to the touch screen for typing since you don't have a physical keyboard but after using it for a while it's not so bad.

    Re: Droid Question

I got the Samsung Galaxy Fascinate. Love the phone so far. Not sure it was the best one, but it was the one I liked the best. After the first week, I'm in love with all the things it can do. Heck for some reason I rather use it then my computer. Could be because I'm too lazy to grab it.

Just curious--does the "WiFi Hotspot" feature work well?

    Re: Droid Question

X is awesome but pretty good sized. I think the 2 just offers a physical keyboard.

    Re: Droid Question

I think if you order online you dont pay the extra $100 upfront, you dont have to mail it in. I have the X and love it , it is big in the pocket, but you get used to it though. i love the swype and talk texting features, dont know if the others have them. My only complaint is the battery dies super fast when in an extended network all day, like where I work. Otherwise the battery is decent for all it does.

It works but with Verizon it costs to use it. Unless you root your phone.

    Re: Droid Question

If you prefer a physical QWERTY keyboard then you'll want the Droid 2. The Droid X has just a virtual keyboard. The Droid 2 has a smaller screen than the DX. DX has a larger SD card (16 vs D2 with 8). D2 ships with the Android 2.2 OS while the DX has 2.1 but the Froyo update is out.

I was deciding between the D2 and the DX and decided on the DX. They are very similar phones and it comes down to if you want a physical keyboard or not. Since the D2 does it is a little thicker. Also I liked the larger screen of the DX.

Also DX has HDMI (720p) out so you can watch HD videos on your TV or laptop. Note when you view videos on your DX it is not HD for some reason.

I got the Droid 2 recently and I love it. I like having a physical keyboard though.

On a related note, what are some sweet apps/games? There are so many to choose from...

    Re: Droid Question

I've had the Droid X since it launched and its great. The swype technology is fantastic - I can type on the DX almost as fast as a bberry. (You just draw on the keyboard without lifting your fingers and the software figures out which word you meant). Size is definitely big, but it still fits in your front jeans pocket. I have the silicon case - a thin hard case might be ideal and shrink the size a bit.
