    Knott to NFL?

    Jake Knott - Yahoo! Sports

Looking at his height, weight, and speed isn't that pretty good for an outside linebacker? He will only get bigger and better too.

I think both Knott and Klein have good shots. 2 years to grow and develop and get stronger. Not too bad.

I think 227 would be on the light side definitely, probably a long shot at this point, but he's young.

    Re: Knott to NFL?

IIRC, someone posted on here awhile back that an NFL scout said Knott will be an NFL linebacker someday, and that was before he was even starting.

Ok, you're also looking at his senior year in HS page.

    He's 6'4" 240 now.

He has a shot, but it's way too early to tell.

Chiz and FreeRent both wanted him to walk-on. CPR said he was the next Chad Greenway and signed him.

    Re: Knott to NFL?

    jake knott is not 6'4

he would be the tallest guy on our defense, save when McD is out there... and jake is not the tallest. He doesnt' even look tall in the huddle standing next to our 6' tall DEs and our 5'9 corners and safeties

    :/

edit: besides, taht link that was posted says he's 6'2

    Re: Knott to NFL?

Jake Knott has arguably the best shot of being an NFL LB as any in ISU history. He certainly has room for improvement and that should come with 2 & 1/2 more years of experience and Wally's tutelage. Wally has coached a dozen linebackers who've been drafted into the NFL. At 6'2" 240lbs Knott certainly has the size, but what sets him apart is his speed and power. Yancy McKnight raved about Knott this summer on Cyclones.com in part 2 of 3 of a series of interviews about the Off-season Strength & Conditioning Program:

Summer Football Strength and Conditioning Update No. 2 - Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - The home of Iowa State Cyclone Sports

Yancy talks about Knott in the video on that page starting at 10:50, but unfortunately the text of his interview doesn't show up anymore. I had copied what was said about Knott and emailed it to a high school LB who had met Knott at football camp this summer, so I was able to grab it from that old email. Yancy says Knott has the speed of a cornerback with the strength of an interior lineman. And he's got a good head on his shoulders and is the hardest worker in the weight room. Those Greenway comparisons that have followed him since high school continue to ring true.

McKnight on LB's: Jake Knott. Even with a broken hand right now when he had a wrist surgery right after spring ball. He actually broke his hand in October and that just shows you how tough he is. To go through all the off-season stuff with a broken hand, man he is freaky. A guy that big who is 240 pounds and can put up a 36-inch vertical and who knows what he runs his forty in. I know, but I wont say out loud, but trust me, its fast. He is extremely strong. Hes a mid-550 pound back squatter, plus 300 pounds on the cleans and hes almost a 10-foot broad jumper. From a linebacker, he puts up numbers speed-wise and from a skills perspective like a corner, but then he lifts maximal stuff like an interior lineman. So he has got a lot of ability and a lot of skill. He is just a hard-nosed guy.
In his full year here, he has never had a bad day in my opinion. He will say he has. My standards are pretty high, but he just comes to work every day and is just one of those guys you enjoy being able to put in the hours of work. Even with an injury, we do some sledgehammer stuff with the sledges on the tire and he swings it one-handed like most of our guys who swing it two-handed. So he does some freaky stuff, but he has pushed hard even with the cast and splint on. He has done a really nice job.
