Garnett to Suns - Amare to Hawks???

Latest trade rumor going in the draft tonight:

    Garnett to Suns
    Amare to Hawks
Picks 3 and 8? (or 9) to Timberwolves

Some sites are saying this is going down, others are saying its fluff. Thoughts?

Also who's going #3? Rumor of Mike Conelly (sp?) Jr sneaking way up to that spot after being projected 8-11.

I live in Phoenix, and according to all the media outlets here this deal is dead. From all indications the Suns have no interest in giving up Amare for Garnett.

Re: Garnett to Suns - Amare to Hawks???

#3 seems a little high for Connelly, but he is the best point guard in the draft. For the past few weeks, it seemed like Horford would be #3, but Atlanta has a glut of forwards and they need a PG, so you might be right. Sounds like Yi is the hot topic right now. Could go as high as 3 and most likely won't slip past the Bucks at #6.

I have a feeling KG might not get dealt afterall, unless it's a totally different deal. It's just so tough to work this kind of deal with KG's salary and trade clause.

    Tonight should be interesting...

As a Pheonixian, what do you think about the player swap, regardless of feasibility. Personally I love the Suns, but they have tough nemisis in the Spurs and Amare gets taken to class everytime Timmy D comes to town. Garnett's not that much older - but there are a lot more years on those joints - though given Amare's career threatening microfactures it might be a wash who plays longer.

    whatdaya think?

The Suns need to decide if they want to win it now or maybe not at all. If they get Garnette they have the best shot to win it now. The future is Amari.

I still believe it will be Al Horford from Florida.

Doesn't matter if it's Atlanta or Minnesota with the #3 pick (pending trade rumors).

Like previously mentioned... if the Suns want to go for the title now, KG might be the answer. But for future chances, they should stick with AS. (The kid's only going to get better)

I would take Garnett for Stoudemire, but I'm in the minority down here. With Nash getting older, the window for a championship is shrinking. So eventhough we're losing a younger player, the Suns need to win now, and I think Garnett gives them a better chance over the next two years. Like I said though, most Suns fans want to keep the younger Amare, which I can understand.

To me the biggest weakness of the Suns is the lack of a player that can create his own shot in the half-court offense. Barbosa is the only one on the team with this ability. I'd rather see them find a 2 that does more than spot up for 3s.

Re: Garnett to Suns - Amare to Hawks???

I would do it in a heartbeat... Amare's game is pretty limited and he can't do much outside of the lane... Most of his points seem to be off the break and I think people are more facinated with his highlights than actual basketball skills...

Being a Suns fan, they need to stick with Amare. Garnett is not going to help anyone win a championship as he can't stop Tim Duncan either.

As a Spurs fan, I love to see Timmy take Amare to school. Keep him and let the Spurs pwnage continue. Of course it will continue no matter who the Suns run out there.

I agree no one is going to stop Tim Duncan, the Suns need to get a defender to stop Tony Parker and that would get them over the hump in the west, thus the NBA championship.

Re: Garnett to Suns - Amare to Hawks???

I'm a die-hard Suns fan and I don't think there's any way they pull the trigger on that deal.

As much as some people hate Amare, he's an incredibly gifted player and he hasn't even developed his whole game yet. For every person that hates his attitude (actually he's better now) there are 20 that love him in Phoenix. Let's face it, Nash is only going to be MVP caliber for another year or two and they need somebody to bring people to the games. Amare is the future of Suns basketball.

To put it bluntly, Garnett doesn't give the Suns anything that Amare doesn't give them, except another AARP card member. Garnett is one of the most talented players to ever play the game but he'd score and rebound just about the same numbers as Amare would next year and Amare can keep playing and exciting the fans for many years. Amare has a very similar style of play but he has greater range and it's extending all the time. Garnett has experience and desire but Amare is quickly getting all the experience he needs.

What the Suns do need is somebody that can box out and play some good defense along-side or in place of Shawn Marion. With some stud shooters and blazing speed, the Suns need somebody to help slow-down some of the big players they see night in and night out.

I feel bad for Garnett and his ridiculous tenure at MN but he's not going to the Suns unless it's for Marion or some of the up-and-comers. Honestly, Garnett might not get traded if a deal with Phoenix or LA can't be had. He's got a couple of years left but he has a high price tag and he only has so many options where he can compete for a title right away.

I question how good Amare will be without a Nash ... he needs someone to create for him.

Also, microfacture surgery ends careers and he is definatly prone to that injury

I agree but they have some good ball-handlers growing up pretty quickly that just need a chance to prove themselves. I love Nash but I think the Suns can still be strong after he's done. I just don't want those days coming too soon:)
