    Thumbs down Hiawatha Rutland

HR was on the NBC show Last Comic Standing and was eliminated in 10 seconds. Tried to make fun of Iowa by saying he went to a strip club to do cow tipping. Weak!

Hiawatha Rutland on last comic standing

Did anyone happen to notice Hiawatha on the last comic standing this evening? He was only on for about 15 seconds that I saw but the judges weren't impressed by his performace..one of the jokes had to do w/ cow tipping and a strip club. The judge had some comment about a fork in her eye or something...funny to see

    Re: Hiawatha Rutland

I had the great misfortune of seeing him perform at the VEISHEA Says I'm Funny. He won...which was a joke. There were about four people better. I couldn't believe how bad it was. I believe this was right after the year he broke his leg. Is it sad that he was better at football than he is at comedy?

Yeah, I just jumped on here to see if anyone else saw that... unbelievably bad... funny to see an ex-DI football player trying to make it in comedy!!! :)

    Re: Hiawatha Rutland

I saw him at VEISHEA in '04....he was horrible. His jokes made no sense, and he looked like a scared 5 year old up there (not saying I could do any better!) He wasn't quite as bad as Horratio Sans though. I have never seen 5,000 people walk out on a comedian like that. There were litteraly 50 people left at the end of that night.

    Re: Hiawatha Rutland

Haratio was awful. His comedy troupe doing the skit about date rape was a quick way to empty the place. I walked out quickly. I thought that Hiawatha was moderately funny that niight, hoped he would do well tonight but alas, cow tipping in a strip club in Iowa was not funny. I immediately thought about Paul as well and wondered how his self loathing Iowa humor would go over on a stage.

I'm not going to lie, but I'm glad VEISHEA has had some good comedians while I've gone thus far. Dane Cook in '05, and Dave Attel in '06. Didn't go this year as I ddn't know who the guy was. Heard he was decent though.

They seriously had Dane Cook in 05? Wow. I thought Dave Attell sucked last year, but the opening acts were hilarious, especially the little white guy. I don't remember their names. Robert Kelly was this year and he was awesome. A lot better than last year.

Dane Cook came in 05, but it wasn't part of veishea (they canceled it that year or something..). The little white guy opening for Dave Attel was Jonathan Katz.

Agreed, Dave Attell was horrible. He had trouble getting the audience to buy his perverted jokes, and actually started going to the Iowa State Daily newspaper that he had for a source. I was never really impressed with him on Comedy Central, but hoped his stand up was better. I was wrong.

I can't believe I missed Dane Cook in '05, though. Where the hell was I?

I believe Dane Cook was in Ames for his Tourgasm show on HBO. I remember watching it and seeing him wearing an Iowa State T-Shirt a few episodes later as well.
