    Rain gutter protection

Bought a new house in July and it needs some gutter protection from leaves and nuts. Anyone have any experience good or bad? Product recommendations? Would like to instal myself if possible.

I have live oaks, which have small leaves and small acorns that love to clog the gutters. About 5 years ago, I got these things from Home Depot, and they have worked very well.

    Re: Rain gutter protection

I have gutter protection, and for the most part, they work great. However, during insane rainstorms, water comes flying off the sides due to the screen reflecting the rain.

Having your nuts in a gutter rarely turns out well...

Can't you just hold the ladder in one hand with a beer in the other hand while your wife is on the roof cleaning them out?

    Re: Rain gutter protection

When I replace gutters next time, I think I'll use larger downspouts. Has anyone tried this?

I have the metal screens on mine and they work great. They came in four foot sections and you just screw them on. I have maple trees so the pods stick in them sometimes but they eventually dry up and break. Menards has them last time I looked.

I'm another satisfied Gutter Topper customer. Earlier we had tried the do-it-yourself method on my Dad's house using a system from a big box store. It didn't do a satisfactory job and messed up in both heavy rain and snow/ice conditions.

Later I needed a solution on my house to handle problems with both maple seeds and ice dams. Did a lot of research and looked at about 5 systems before settling on Gutter Topper. It wasn't cheap, but it has proven to be one of the best investments that we have done to our house.

Do you remember how much per foot it ended up costing you? Looks like a nice system. Just want to know if it's worth the extra money.

    Thanks.
