2 months away....I think we squeak out another 1000 or so tops. Official prediction is 34,193.

We should have an award for anyone that can guess the final tally.

35,500+ if the students buy the extra 800 tickets.

    Re: 33,418

My opinion is that if we get to 35,000 JPs ticket plan for this season is a HUGE success. All of the critics of his idea to sell no single game iowa tickets, to raise prices, etc will have to eat their words.

Even if we don't get to 35K, the fact that the record for sales has been shattered despite the changes is a testament to JPs vision.

    Re: 33,418

I know we averaged over 50k fans per game for three seasons in the early eighties. Does anyone know what our season ticket sales were back then? Also, it seems there were more students at the games at that time .....from what I can remember.....I think. Does anyone know or have a guess?

    1. You could bring drink into the stadium back then. G and Ts on hot fall days, break out the whiskey when the winds of november blew.

    2. It wasn't the severe hassle getting to games back then. I don't think a parking fee was even charged.

    3. Real high quality teams (for ISU) under Earl.

So yes, there were more students back then, but there was also more of everybody else.

    Re: 33,418

July is just around the corner and that means - August is just over a month away.

With August comes football. I would like to start tailgating now in order to make sure I've fully practiced this ritual before the season.

Who's coming with me...(grabs case of beer and waves it in the air). Who's coming with me, besides...Modelo?

I want to go tailgate for something before football season starts, since I can't ever actually tailgate for a football game...

    True and Valiant

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

That is why I never joined the band, well that and I cannot play an instrument. But tailgaiting was one of the best things about going to ISU. Getting out there at 6am, cooking chili on the grill, lots of cold beer, brats or burgers on the same grill later, followed by a 70+ pt loss by our beloved clones.

Just because you're in band doesn't mean you can't tailgate. It has been done, my friend. Night games were the best. And so were the fans that let us raid their coolers when we did informal parking lot roving band.

Maybe the drumline should go to Tip-Top at 6:00 instead of hitting Hy-Vee for breakfast (do they still do that?). That'd make for one sweet-*** morning walkthrough.
