Looking at the Schedule, Bowl Game is Still Possible.

We have must wins against UNI, Kansas, and Colorado. All are teams that we should beat. Then have to win two against either Tech, Nebraska, Utah, or Missouri. At the beginning of the year we all said that a bowl game would be a great accomplishment with the strength of our opponets.

I know it is easy to be really neative right now, but we still have a shot at the goal we want to accomplish. A bowl game two years in a row for a new coach would be a giant step in the right direction. Plus almost all of our must win games are at home. I am still confident this team can get to a bowl game and give us a trip to a warm weather location this winter. Maybe this is just me being overly ambutious, but I think we got a shot.

If we want to go to a bowl game from here Kansas, UNI, Colorado, AND Missouri are all must wins. Than we upset a Tech, Nebraska, Utah, OU, or Texas.

I am sticking with my 5-7 prediction

Re: Looking at the Schedule, Bowl Game is Still Possible.

The Cyclones were already coming into the season with a tough schedule. Even if you considered KSU, Kansas, Colorado, NIU and UNI as wins, that's only 5 wins. The 6th would have had to come from upsetting teams like Iowa, Texas Tech, Utah, Oklahoma, Texas, Nebraska or Missouri.

Texas Tech is at the bottom of the "receiving votes" column at this time, but lost by only 10 to Texas.
    Utah is currently ranked 13th.
    Oklahoma is 9th.
    Texas is 4th.
    Nebraska is 7th.
    Mizzou is 24th.

ISU is currently 1-2, correct? Now if you take UNI, Colorado, and Kansas as wins, that puts you at four wins. You still need to beat TWO of the above mentioned teams in order to reach 6 wins.

Not impossible, but it'll be tough.

Until the number of games left is less than the number of wins we need to get to six we still got a shot, but our odds are way down from what they were.

Re: Looking at the Schedule, Bowl Game is Still Possible.

Our model last year broke down like this:

    3-1 in non-conference (still possible in 2010)
1-2 vs South (this must happen at a minimum)
2-3 vs North (this must change to 3-2 with only 1 win over the South and 2-2 in non-conference)

We will likely go 2-2 in the non-conference this year which means we need to go 4-4 in the Big XII to make a bowl.

At least one win must come against the South but it cannot be our "upset" game as we will need one of those too. So that win likely has to be Texas Tech.

That win gives us 3 wins and then wins over Colorado and Kansas will give us 5. We then need to spring an upset over Nebraska or Missouri, both at home, to hit 6 wins. Of course this does not take the Texas and Oklahoma games in to account. However, if we upset one of them for our South win we still must pull an upset of a North school.

It's still possible but a lot of things will have to happen for us. Like another game with massive turnovers by the opponent.

Re: Looking at the Schedule, Bowl Game is Still Possible.

Earlier this year I broke it down into 4 game sets.

The first 4 games I was hoping ISU could have a 3-1 record...its now likely to be 2-2

Middle 4 games I was hoping ISU could have a 1-3 record...from what I have seen so far, I'm leaning more towards 0-4, but 1-4 is not impossible.

Last 4 games I was hoping ISU could have a 2-2 record. With what ISU has done so far, we will have to go 3-1 in the final 4 games to make a bowl game this year.

Not impossible by any means, but I'm dropping my prediction from 6 wins to 5 wins for ISU this year.

Re: Looking at the Schedule, Bowl Game is Still Possible.

Of course it's still possible. It's not like we've already lost 7 games on the season. It's just going to be more difficult when most of us marked down K-State as a "must win" if we wanted to go to a bowl this year.

Re: Looking at the Schedule, Bowl Game is Still Possible.

I don't want to be a wet blanket, but it is far more likely that we go winless the rest of the year than go to a bowl - especially from what I saw last Saturday. Disagree if you want, but we have an offense that cannot move the ball and a defense that cannot stop anybody. As Jim Mora said - Playoffs?!?!

Re: Looking at the Schedule, Bowl Game is Still Possible.

The offense is going to have to show us they can score in the 30s, and the defense is going to have to show they can stop a running game without committing the DBs and safeties to do it before we can worry about bowl games or even beating anyone, including UNI.

There is still hope, but the odds are very slim, and the Clones are going to have to improve a lot, more than any team in the country, to reach a bowl. To get there they will need to beat KU, CU, UNI, TT and MU. They have no real chance against the rest of the teams on the schedule, unless they fumble a game away like the Huskers did last year.

Re: Looking at the Schedule, Bowl Game is Still Possible.

I think a win last week would've put us in serious bowl contention. Now, we've really given our self no room for error. Ku and CU are games I think we can win but nothing guaranteed and both have been much more impressive than we have (KU's loss to an FCS team is trumped by beating a rated GT squad IMO) so far this season.
