There is a reason beyond being dumb though that we had penalties. If the guy across the line of scrimmage is better than you, and catches you out of position you will end up holding to save your qb's scalp. If we can't start to win more of the one on one matchups, I predict these penalties will continue to happen.

Good article, Ben, but me thinks you are a little generous.

That's it. The rest is all in the BAD to UGLY category.

THe inability to keep running plays to 3 yards and not 7 yards is essentially leading to our downfall. Is there anything elese that CPR can shore up the front four in your opinion or are we tapped?

Our GM really has to get out there and look at the trade market. Maybe you give up a little of your future, but we need help up front. We should have plenty of room under the salary cap.

Have to include Klein in the good. Pick 6 and what would the yards per carry have been if he didn't make 10-15 tackles?

And Vander Kamp averaged 51 yards per punt with little or no returns. That is outstanding and will serve us well over the next 4 years if he can keep it up.

    Mr. Bruns,

Again, you pulled no punches. Excellent work.

The point you made about the offensive penalities when ISU is in the red zone (or at least inside the opponents 30) is the part that hits home. I'm sure they keep stats on something like this, but really, how many times has ISU driven down, got in a good scoring position, and then get a holding call, a chop block call, a false start call, etc., to kill the drive?

Thanks again, Mr. Bruns, for another well-written break down and analysis of the K-State game.

It is analysis like this that I would like to hear in the mornings on KXNO, regardless of the team that was being broken down. IF Mr. Bruns is not interested, I challenge KXNO to find someone with this level of football IQ for this market.

His last sentence about how the team needs to start playing smart is true...I'd add the coaches in that as well in they need to coach smart too...mainly playcalling

Uhhh, they're not. Read it again.

"After week three, Iowa State ranks 73rd in the country in penalty yards with 164, a far cry from the shocking statistic Troy St. is rocking out at 315, but enough to cost us Saturday’s game."

Re: Ben Bruns: Good, bad and ugly from Saturday's loss

I disagree with the article. I think we have no execution and we are getting penelties because our guys are not as good as there guys thus we have to try and cheat a little. Our guys just suck at getting caught. KSU guys were able to do a little better at the cheating game than us. See the offensive pass interfearance that was not called.
Also when you run 270 pound slow defensive lineman out there against 320 slow offensive lineman. Offensive lineman beat defensive lineman.
When the QB is tossing grounders and throwing 20 feet over our receivers heads it's bad execution.

Re: Ben Bruns: Good, bad and ugly from Saturday's loss

Take a look at any of the numerous football threads from this week and you'll clearly see the "ugly" from Saturday's loss...

Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice?
Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.
