    Ever bought jewelry online?

Have any of you ever bought your wives jewelry online? I'm looking to do something for an upcoming anniversary and it seems, as with many other things, online prices are better. I was looking at myjewelrybox.com. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

As long as they're reputable, I don't know what the issue would be...

Where are you at? Why don't you go to Ames Silversmithing?

I have used bluenile.com before. I would absolutely buy from them again.

Stay away from Gemvara - great looks and prices but terrible products and support.

I used BlueNile.com for my wedding band. Great deal and very easy. They sent me 3 or 4 different bands/sizes, picked one, sent the others back.

Try this site and just say it was expensive

The item change frequently and all you pay is like $5 bucks for shipping great for broke college kids and or when you want to be chaep. You may need to get a jeweler box from somewhere else.

I've used BlueNile a couple of times as well. No qualms.

    Re: Ever bought jewelry online?

I used blue nile and got a damn near perfect loose diamond for the price. I highly recommend them if you can pay upfront or quickly (you'll get a better diamond for the money).

I had my wife's engagement ring custom made by Ames Silversmithing. They did a fantastic job and were incredible to work with. Originally the blue nile diamond was meant for that ring, but Ames Silversmithing gave me 0% interest for 18 months so I ended up buying the diamond from them. Note that the Ames S. diamond was the same price as the blue nile, but was a semi-significant downgrade in terms of cut and clarity. That being said, I saved a ton of money by not having to pay interest for 18 months, which worked best for me.

    Re: Ever bought jewelry online?

Agree with earlier posts about BlueNile. I bought my wife's engagement ring and diamond from James Allen, but was shopping around online, and at stores. Stores will try to sell you really hard and have high markup because of their overhead. Online places don't have that, so you get better value for your money. I highly recommend. They also did resizing for free.

I've bought from the Zales website. Worked very well for me.

    Re: Ever bought jewelry online?

I have been looking at engagement rings and stumbled across one I really like on overstock and have ames silversmithing basically design the same one so I will probably go with them when I decide to get it ordered up. That was until I just looked at the Zales site and found the same ring for $1,200 less...

Careful!! As someone who used to work in the industry, let me warn you that you don't comparison shop diamonds on price unless you are also comparing the diamonds' grades as well. Places like Zales (and generally speaking all the other familiar big names) tend to not even provide a certified grade with their stones because they are counting on the general public's ignorance (or apathy) about how diamonds are priced. This allows them to put large, but ****** quality stones in their rings to make them more "affordable".

Almost every decent sized city has places that are able to get quality, gradable diamonds for reasonable prices. In Des Moines, there's places like Iowa Diamond, Anglo International to name a couple.

Yeah….buy your bands online and save a few bucks, but I wouldn't recommend buying an engagement ring…especially if she's not highly involved in the process. No woman wants to provide the answer "he got it online" (or have to continually lie because she's embarrassed…even though she may not tell you that) when she's asked by her girlfriends where you bought the ring.
