    Wedding or Football game

Now, I know what most of you will say, but I just want to know if it really is a d*ck move on my part.
So, my friend is getting married this Saturday (who happens to be a UNI grad and hawkeye fan ). Stupid I know, and I already yelled at him for scheduling his wedding this weekend. This of all weekends is probably the worst for a wedding, UNI vs ISU and Iowa has a home football game as well. He told me that this was the only weekend they could get everything scheduled and rented out for the wedding/reception. (it was a short engagement).
My mind is made up, as well as a couple of my friends who frequent CF, that we decided we are skipping the wedding and going to the game instead. I am not changing my mind, no matter what is said.
Now my question is: Should I really be attending this wedding instead of the game? Take off your diehard fan sunglasses and answer truthfully. Have any of you skipped you friends' wedding for a football game? If so, was the groom understanding or mad at you?
On a side note: I don't get along with some of his other friends that will be there. Not that we fight all the time, but I just don't care for them. And one of them is engaged to my high school girlfriend. POS.

There should be a rule that if you schedule your wedding during a college football weekend and your team has a home game, that people are not obligated to attend, unless they are the bestman.

Wow. And I thought my cousin screwed up by scheduling his wedding during the ISU-EIU game a while back...everyone showed up to that one. Probably because the reception was at the KC hall with multiple TV's showing the game.

But yeah, if you are actually a friend, you probably should go to the wedding. Give your tickets to the tool in the other thread who wants to set up the webcast of the game at his tailgate.

    Re: Wedding or Football game

I once had to make this decision. Back in 2002 I had to decide on a friends wedding or going to the ISU/Texas Tech game. He's a Hawkeye fan, so it was an easy decision. Not a bad game to choose for my first ISU game, either.

I don't have tickets. I was going to buy one at the game.
haha I really am a friend, not best friend, but I just feel like my time will be better spent tailgating all day and going to the football game, rather than going to the reception (I would skip the wedding anyways) and maybe talking to him for 15-20 mins.

Nah, he'll get over it.. I am doing the exact same thing this weekend for the game. I made it to his bachelor party and I'll send a card but no reason to miss a perfectly good tailgate/game, much less a very good shot at a win.

If ISU was playing EIU or Nebby at home than I would say screw the wedding, but since its not have fun drinking free beer at a wedding.

Unless he is your best friend and you're in the wedding party, feel free to skip it.

Only times you're obligated to attend is if you are:
    (1) Participating in the ceremony
    (2) An immediate relative of the bride or groom

That said, anyone who schedules a wedding during football season should know better. That's what April-August are for.

Since your skipping the wedding anyways I would just go to the game. I hate weddings, the only reason I went to mine was because well i was getting married. My rules for weddings are always try to make it to family and your close friends weddings, if it's a fringe friend then I will go to reception if I have nothing better to do.

Sounds like this guy is a fringe friend so I would say go to the game. Plus this way you don't have to talk to your old high school gf. Every time I see mine I have to assume that I was drunk or high for about a year and a half because that could be the only reason I could stand listening to her talk or just being around her for that long (her great assets obviously made me look past her voice, personality, pretty much everything but her awesome body).

Go to the game, I'll save you a beer.

He must not be much of a friend if you are even considering skipping his wedding to see us play an FCS team.

    Re: Wedding or Football game

if you don't care to be that good of friends with the guy.. skip the wedding. Such as, your significant other is mainly the one getting the invite. I'd caution you before you skip something like that. Remember: iowa state doesn't care who the hell you are. :) lol
