What is wrong with the passing game?

If this been covered by other threads I apologize. But I am a little disappointed that with Darks, Sed and Money all healthy they seem to only get a half dozen looks combined each game. And several of them are way off. Some off the misses could be a receiver running a wrong route. In the end I think we are ignoring our big play guys.

Exactly! We cant get them the ball! and if for some reason they do get the ball, its a miraculous catch that cant be turned into a big gain. Franklin, being 6'6" has to lay out or jump 40 inches to catch the darn thing.

The spread is effective when your receivers get the ball in space and make people miss. But you have to get them the ball first. We did have a couple successful WR screens go for 10 yds a pop.

I am not going to say it's all Arnaud. Does he make too many mistakes? Yes. But there is more to it. I think the staff isn't wanting to take chances unless they have to.

Meyer at least got it to our play makers, close enough to catch it.

Several passes were tipped so that is an indicator that the radar eyes were working yesterday.

Re: What is wrong with the passing game?

Arnaud doesn't fit the system.......he's had enough time, its time to find the next QB at ISU that can lead them to victory.

Its a shame because I am guessing he could be a good QB in another system, but this is the system that ISU is going to run, let them bring in a QB that it fits!!!!

    TIRED OF LOSING!!

He only looks at one receiver. and his pass inaccurate. I was cheering when he left because of his shoulder. crying when he came back.
And whats with Arnaud calling himself the MAYOR. NO WAY.

Re: What is wrong with the passing game?

Arnuad scares the **** out of me, been his supporter forever, but has not progressed. If the ball is not beeing thrown 100 mph its being thrown 99, if the ball is not sailing on the WR it is being tipped by the linebackers. And is it just me or could you tell yesterday that the WRs have no confidence in Arnaud? An Iowa QB is not designed to run this offense. Iowa QBs grow up on the wishbone or pro style, not this type of spread. Cant wait till an Iowa QB is no where to be found as a starter.

Re: What is wrong with the passing game?

What is wrong with the passing game? Austen throws a fastball with very little arc and not necessarily with accuracy. He tends to stare down the intended receiver well before he delivers the pass. Defensive players have time to get between him and the intended receiver allowing them to tip the ball or cause Arnaud to overthrow the pass to avoid an interception. Unless a receiver is cutting across the field it is difficult to find a seam in which to throw the ball successfully.

How is the problem fixed? Austen has to put some touch and a little arc on the short passes instead of using 100% of his canon of an arm. Intermediate and long passes need to be crossing routes so the balls are not tipped or intercepted or once again, Arnaud has to put some touch and arc on the ball intead of seeing how hard a line drive he can throw.

The problem is not all Arnaud. The receivers do not have blazing speed or exceptional hands. Seldom are they wide open unless it is vertically straight down the field. Way too often they drop passes that are right on target. Would a softer pass increase the number of catches? Sure! The point is that unless it a short pass, Big 12 caliber receivers should be able to catch the fastball. The problems with the passing game probably will not be solved this season. Coach Rhoads no doubt is recruiting with this issue in mind when looking at both QBs and receivers.

I hope there is a JUCO QB coming up as well as some JUCO DL's. ISU needs major help in these areas ASAP.
