    Are you Really Surprised?

I think as a fan base, we were just too hyped coming off the bowl win. I mean cmon, look at our schedule. It is nice to dream but every game on our schedule is a toss up besides UNI, and NIU.

Rhoads is working with mediocre talent, and trying to stick with the opponents. Give him some time and lets see where they are in 2 more years. I know that is a hard pill to swallow, but it is the truth.

next week is a toss up UNI is good. This one really hurts because it should have been a win, if we would have wrapped up and tackled better that game was ours.

But when you have a young defense you are going to make mistakes like that. I don't think ISU should have won necessarily but they certainly had their chances, KSU just capitalized more.

NIU - actually went better than I expected

Iowa - surprised it was such a blowout but didn't expect to win, perhaps I just didn't believe the hype, they looked every bit the national contender

KSU - about what I expected, toss up game and it was, of course as an ISU fan I pick ISU to win toss up games but I'm not shocked or anything.

I feel like we have the ability to get upsets under Rhoads. The 10-15 years before this we were constantly playing not to lose, you don't upset ANYONE when you play not to lose.

I won't be surprised if we start winning one or two we're not favored to win from here on out under Rhoads.

This is kind of my point. So far it seems that Rhoads stays within scoring distance with the teams we are supposed to. We don't have the talent level to dominate yet.

    Re: Are you Really Surprised?

UNI will be a good game. im worried. We are good enough to win, but we were good enough to win in 2007 and we lost.

UNI gets really up for this game and expects to win. I still think we win though.

    Re: Are you Really Surprised?

    No, I'm not surprised.

Our offense stunk last year and it stinks this year. The difference is our defense won us some games last year, and this year they've just lost too many experienced players.

We all expected the offense to step it up this year to help out the defense, but obviously that isn't happening.

    Re: Are you Really Surprised?

Our O is not good. USD has a much better QB than we do at ISU. We better get used to losing because we are not going to blow anybody out, we don't have the guts and smarts to win close games, and we are a dream for teams to prepare for. We are so predictable and inefficient it makes me sick.

Seems our O looks about the same as it did under Chizik. Hmmm. I wonder what the common factor is?

    Re: Are you Really Surprised?

Not surprised by our defense. I knew it was going to be a long year on that side of the ball because of the inexperience and lack of depth. Wally doesn't have a whole lot to work with.

I am surprised by how bad our offense is. With the experience there is on that side of the ball and having a year with Herman under the belt, there's absolutely no excuses.

    Re: Are you Really Surprised?

I guess i was looking for something different out of Arnaud. I don't mean to pile on, but he doesn't look like he has really improved at all after having 2 years in the system.
I also think the O-Coordinator arguments have merit as well. I feel like we are not mixing it up enough, or even spreading it out as much, ie quick pass to receiver on the line, then a dive or zone read the other direction.

Don't agree with the sentiment that UNI will beat us. Even with a junky offense and very so-so QB, we'll beat them easily.

We look like no more than a 20 point team on offense. This has been going on for many games.

We lose Haughton and Reggie and no one thinks we'll miss a beat? Wrong. Were considerably weaker in the O-line trenches than last year. Defensively were incredibly young, I actually expect that to improve as the year progresses.
