    New Column

FYI-My column for this week is posted on the front page. Cyclones need to get a little Milton Bradley in them. I'm curious to see how you guys think they can make that happen.

We need ARob in the Wildcat. He would be perfect. Use it against Snyder - didn't he invent it?

Yeah, but if you JUST HAD to blame one guy...

Great article, Brent. Unfortunately I fear that it's just far too much common sense for a few of our fellow Cyclone fans to handle...

    Re: New Column

    Good stuff.

It seems pretty simple, if you are asking your offense to string together ten to fifteen play drives in order to score, it increases the chance for something to go wrong.
    Ding, ding.

Not trying to be a smart***, just curious. You touched on the fact that we hadn't had a punt/kick return for a TD in quite some time, so I am curious why you don't include punt/kick off returns in the 'Explosive Plays' category. Shontrelle had 2 great returns against Iowa and LJ had quite a few his freshman year.

I think they can build as much, if not more, momentum than a 15 yard catch or run.

That is a great and fair point. To be honest, I wasn't sure at what point a punt/kickoff return becomes "explosive." Is it 30 yards? 40? I will have to look back and see how many there have been, Sims had quite a few nice returns as well last year.

    Re: New Column

DeAndre Jackson nearly returned the opening kickoff against Iowa in 2006 for a TD. I think he made it to the Iowa 16 or so.

While I completely agree with this, its kinda funny that this is partly what killed us against Iowa. As I remember it, they didnt have any "explosive" plays in their first 2 drives. Yet by the time we got the ball for the second time the tone of the game had been completely set by Iowa.

That's a really, really good way to put it.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is this "Milton Bradley" thing Brent refers to -- the baseball player, or the game company?

The baseball player who explodes at the drop of a hat. Milton Bradley explodes, "explosive plays"...

I'd say it's any return that gives the offense the ball in your opponent's territory.

An effect named after a player with a bad attitude towards his teammates and coaches; yeah, that's the ticket!

    Re: New Column

Brent -- great job on the article! This is the best ISU article, I've read all week.

However, I would have preferred it coming on Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday. I prefer sunshine blown up my *** as we get closer to Game Day.
