    Oregon State wins CWS

They weren't even suppose to make it to regionals and they end up winning back to back national titles.

Who says a team from the North can't win in College Baseball?

They do have the benefit of playing in the tough Pac-10, which is largely a "southern" (or at least favorable weather) conference. But it's good to see a northern team win it all -- back to back, no less! Not that Iowa State is any closer to putting a team together again, but I suppose Oregon State's success can give us a little bit of hope...

They were last team in the regionals as they went 10-16 in their league. It was Reyes the freshman.

My family and I went to game one last night, it was the first college baseball game I have witnessed. I wore my Iowa State gear, and nobody gave me any crap! Heck, I even talked to a couple of people and they did not even realize that Iowa State did not have a baseball team.

The atmosphere for the game was pretty good, however, it was kind of werid not having anybody to root for since it did not involve Iowa State, so since my high school colors were orange and black I rooted for the Beavers.

Hoorah for Oregon State; I went to graduate school there. Nevertheless I pay a lot more attention to where I went to undergraduate school (ISU).

Cyfreddy where did you sit? I was at the game with three other iowa staters and we were wearing some isu stuff. I was surprised at the number of Iowa State hats and shirts i saw there (obviously nothing compared to the nebraska ones....).

We set down the right field line, it was the last section of reserve seating two rows up in the upper tier. I was just glad we paid the extra money for reserve seating, and did not have to mess with the lines in general admission.

I thought that teams from the north could not compete with the south? Didn't I read that here?

Oregon State is from the "north" geographically, but the Pacific Northwest is totally different than Iowa in terms of weather. It doesn't snow there except in the higher elevations. It rains like a banshee though.

    Compare these...
Corvallis, OR Average Weather for Corvallis, OR - Temperature and Precipitation
    and
Ames, IA Average Weather for Ames, IA - Temperature and Precipitation

There's a 20 degree difference in January/February between Corvallis and Ames meaning they can get outside and practice. Unline Iowa State which would have to wait until March/April.

way to go psycln11, it only took 9 posts for someone to bring up the "well the northwest is different" arguement.

good thing we just built that new indoor practice facility then huh since we cant go outside in iowa until march or even april. god forbid we practice in 50 degree weather. or even the 80 degree weather we had this march.

What about Minnesota, Nebraska, and Michigan?

All I was saying is that Oregon State is not your "typical" north school!!

We didn't have the $$$ to build that new indoor practice facility when BVD put baseball on the chopping block. Right now, it's not in Jaime's budget to bring back baseball. Fortunately (for those who want it back) it is in his overall master plan to bring it back in the next 10 years.

He would like to build a new Gateway Athletic Complex across University Boulevard from JTS where the intramural softball fields are currently located. This includes construction of tennis and track and field facilities, and softball and baseball diamonds; creation of a visual presence on the back side of Jack Trice Stadium to connect with Reiman Gardens.

I personally believe the SW Athletic Complex is a POS. There are no decent facilities there for the fans or athletes.

Minnesota plays all there home games before April in the south or in the DOME!! Then they go outside. Look at the schedule for this past season.

Nebraska uses the indoor facility similar to what ISU just built. We didn't have it when baseball was cut.

Don't know (nor care) about Michigan, except the fact that they have a large supply of jack (aka $$$) due to selling over 100,000 football tickets per home game in the "Big House". The have a larger budget to play with there. I'd hate to see what Jaime could accomplish at UM with all those resources.

I would say some better examples would be Rutgers, Missouri, St. Johns, Wichita St., Creighton, Albany, Louisville, and Illinois-Chicago who have all put together great teams despite being up north and not having huge budgets… Others with recent success, Maine, Boston College, Old Dominion, Ball State, Illinois, Washington State, Kansas, and University of Northern Iowa… Then you have big budget Michigan, Ohio State, and Notre Dame… Minnesota is kinda a freak case because of their access to the dome, but as we all know, that won’t be around much longer and they really don’t use the dome all that much, especially for practice…

Oh, and a little interesting fact when it comes to Oregon State baseball... Oregon State's closer from last years team was the younger brother of former Cyclone IF Jeff Gunderson...
