Re: Tyler Smith won't sit a year

Not trying to downplay cancer whatsoeve especially since my mom is battling breast cancer right now, but it seems like a lot of players could use that reason to not miss a year after transferring. Many people have close friends and family with cancer. I don't think I know anyone that does not know a person with cancer. nothing against Tyler or Tennessee, I was just curious why this does not happen more often.

Re: Tyler Smith won't sit a year

A parent having cancer is all the more reason to sit a year. My dad had cancer my last year of college. It was hard helping him out as well as trying to pass all my classes. I cannot even imaging throwing a full time sport in it.

I suppose the other argument is that sports would provide an outlet to temporarily escape the reality of the situation.

I definitely don't like the control that colleges have over the kids with the one year rule, but chaos would ensue without it. I guess I would support an easing of the restrictions so that, in more cases, kids could transfer with less penalty.

I would think the NCAA is hoping his dad would get to see him play one more year this way.

    I agree with kgreeny.

Nothing wrong with letting the kid play. Afterall his dad has cancer and his old coach quit. Kinda feel bad for him.
