    KSU matchups

I'd like to know what to expect on Saturday. I haven't watched any KSU highlights and would like to get some takes from both fanbases on what we might see...what KSU returns for OL, DL, DBs etc...

Daniel Thomas >>>>>>> our rush defense.

Their qb's suck (Coffman and Klein)... but Arnaud sucks too...

Our receiver core is much better.

    Will be ugly game.

Yeah, this is where I wish I'd seen some KSU footage; Is KSU's OL / Thomas that good or has the competition been weak?

KSU is a BCS version of NIU. Same game plan but we'll need better execution.

I think that's going to be the difference between this week and last week. Iowa's Offensive line is top 10 or 5 in college football. I am not sure about KSU, but I would imagine they would be more average.

I watched their opener against UCLA, and Thomas looked pretty scary to me. The dude is big, but still has breakaway speed. I think he is good enough to basically beat us all by himself.

The biggest question on Saturday will be who get's the first hit on the running back. Last week, the first contact was typically LB's and safeties. We need the D-Line to at least make him make a move to give the rest of the defense a chance.

If you believe this you are off your rocker. Their offensive line is not that great really, my guess is they are a top 4-5 in the Big 10. ISU's d-line is just that bad. I could argue that Colorado's o-line is on par with Iowa's as they have one of the top OL players in the country and their line is full of seniors. I am pretty sure K-State, OU and Texas all have better o-lines then Iowa.

    Re: KSU matchups

I was at KSU vs UCLA down in Manhattan; they gave the ball to Thomas on at least every other play. He is their only true offensive weapon. Carson Coffman and their backup QB Klein are not good quarterbacks and Paul/ Wally need to expose that.

    Re: KSU matchups

Offensively we're better at every position but RB. However, I don't have much faith in our D to stop Daniel Thomas. If we tackle like we did last week, we could put 11 guys in the box and he'd torch us.

Their quarterbacks are worse than Arnaud. They had 66 yards passing against UCLA, and let's just say that Iowa's defense is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> UCLA's.

Don't know much about their receivers, but if they have 66 passing yards, I'd imagine that's not 100% QB play.

Their defense did not cover the pass that well, but UCLA couldn't hang on to the ball (sound familiar?). Not sure how they did against the run.

This should be a very close game between evenly matched teams.

    Re: KSU matchups

If we are as god awful against the run as we have been, we're going to get destroyed. Defensive line needs to pull their heads out of their ***** or this will be over by halftime unless the offense is firing on all cylinders.

    Re: KSU matchups

From what I saw in the UCLA game it looked like Thomas had a ton of broken tackles. I don't think K-State opened up gigantic holes that he ran though. I think it was more that he is an absolute beast. Now UCLA got whipped 35-0 at home to Stanford last week, so their win doesn't look as good as it did. I'm more worried about us being able to bring Thomas down then I am K-State's Oline.

We were fine against the run two weeks ago. We were awful against the run two days ago.

If our run defense can give the effort on Thomas that they gave to Spann, we can be ok. Honestly, given the K-State passing game, if we can keep Thomas under 150 yards, we'll be doing enough to win. That said, if we play like last week, Thomas could push 300 yards.

This is based off what? So far they have looked excellent to me.
Yes, they havent played a good D-line yet, but they still looked great in their execution. And im going to give a Kirk ferentz O-line the benefit of the doubt.
There is no chance K State's O-line can be as good as Iowa's.
