    24, 48 Fail Inspection!!

For those who follow NASCAR this is huge! Here is the story --> NASCAR.COM - Gordon, Johnson fail initial inspection at Sonoma - Jun 22, 2007

Quick over view, both cars had some type of front fender modification and are not allowed to participate in Friday practice or qualifying. They have a chance to fix what was wrong, but if they don't fix what was wrong they will not race. More penalties to come next week!

It's much better to fail a pre-race inspection than a post-race suspension. I wouldn't be surprised to see J. Gordon work his way to the front on Sunday despite no practice.

Very true, I don't think that Gordon will be able to work his way up to the front since it is a road course.

There will be crew chiefs suspensions, fines, and possibly loss of points. Just like a few weeks ago when Jr failed pre-race inspections. Look for a 4-6 race suspension for the crew chiefs, a $100,000 fine, and loss of 100 driver and owner points.

NASCAR has set a benchmark for this type of penalty. They are pretty much saying don't modify the COT or you will pay the price.

I don't get it, why not let them modify the cars. Seems silly to limit technology. Could bring more excitement to the race if people got to do some work on the cars.

It's more of NASCAR wanting everyone to follow the same rules. Allowing teams to modify the car however they want (like putting jet fuel in it) just isn't following the rules. It would be like in football, allowing lineman to hold all they wanted to because we may see a few more big time plays.

Yikes, I didn't no Jr was penalized that much. Doesn't look good for the 24 or 48.

They exploited a grey area and with the COT, thats a no-no.

It mostly goes back to the premise of it being a stock car. There overall goal has been to try and keep the cars as equal as possible. Letting teams have unlimited free will would put an even wider gap from the good teams to the bad, as the better teams could afford greater amounts of R and D.

Not seeing the downside in that. Sorta makes it like life.

Not a perfect system by any means. It's just them trying to keep things 'traditional' a bit.

So, how many wins would Hendrick have this year if knaus would have got caught cheating at Bristol instead of Infineon. Is this 7 or 8 times he's been caught cheating?

There is a gap in the template that they thought they could work with; they thought wrong. The 24/48 teams see it as a grey area; Chad Knaus is an expert at grey areas. It will be a hefty fine and suspension for sure.

    Re: 24, 48 Fail Inspection!!

Penalties have been given to both Gordon and Johnson and they are the same as Jr's...loss of 100 driver points, 100 owner points, 6 week suspension for both crew chiefs, and a $100,000 fine for both.

ESPN - Gordon, JJ docked 100 points for failing inspection - Nascar
