    Everyone Take A Deep Breath

Yes, for the second year in a row Iowa has beaten us and soundly at that. However, does anyone remember when Kirk Ferentz took over the heading coaching position at Iowa. Danny Mac and the boys took him to the woodshed repeatedly. To the point where many Hawk fans were calling for for him to fired after year two (if any Hawk wants to dispute this I gladly welcome the debate). Good thing for the Hawks sounder minds prevailed and they stayed the course. The Hawks are a top 10 team, they have good athletes, a stable coaching staff, and a proven system to win. This all starts with continuity and believing in the leadership you have in place. We have a leader in Paul Rhoads, he wants to be at Iowa State, we have a good staff in Coach Burnham and Herman What we don't have are the athletes to run the systems that these coaches want to employ. Give them time to get the athletes to run the schemes they want, and the years to get this continuity.

We have alot of season left, and many big games to play. This was a good dose of reality. The guys know that this is the type of competition they will be facing all year, so they better buckle up and get ready. I think this game will ultimately help us prepare for the rest of the year. It will make this team much more focused in their preparation.

    Go Clones!

Why is this in the Men's Basketball forum?

Otherwise, I do agree with you.

Rhoads put it best... it looked like a football program that has been in place for 12 years playing against one that has been in place for 20 months yesterday.

Rhoads is the perfect fit at ISU.

People act like we were the one with the upper hand this game. We were the heavy underdog and iowa gave us a **** kicking but at the end of the day i'll take a winning season and a loss to iowa over a losing season with a win against iowa. I wonder how many people are at the ledge right now saying our seasons over after week 2.

It took McCarney tries to beat Iowa and it took Ferentz 5 tries to beat ISU. While losing to your rival is not good, it is not necessarily a death knell for a program.

On a semi-related note, I heard that Pfizer is finalizing a major sponsorship deal with ISU. Season tickets will now come with a free 6-month supply of Zoloft.

Re: Everyone Take A Deep Breath

Here is my take. Iowa is super succesful for alot of reason but one people tend to over look is the longevity of their staff. They have been around for what, 12 years or so now? Stability means everything. I know Dan had some rough times with ISU, but in those long years here we had some good ones as well. Dropping Dan, losing Chizik, etc does not help recruiting or building chemistry on a team. Now that Rhoads is here, I think in a few years of stability we will see this become something special and the woes of today will be just thin memories.

I agree. Hell, even dan saw dropoff after he lost some good assistants (and stuck with the wrong ones too long). I think that CPR is a guy that can get it done here. We need consistency. We're barely starting year 2. Thats still the infancy of a program. Unfortunately, even if the results are not there right away, to maintain this consistency we still may need to step up to the plate and pay some of these guys more, so we dont start off at square 1 in any dept..

    Exactly right.

    Also, exactly right.

This is the first time since I've been an ISU fan that losing this game truly didn't bother me. We were on the road at a legit B10 contender. I still feel very positive about our chances to get to six wins and a bowl and at this stage in the programs development under Rhoads that is huge. We need a win in KC on Saturday and I think we'll bounce back and get it. It's not out of the question that we could win the North; we have better personel and coaches than KSU, KU and CU, imo and if we take care of those three, beat UNI and punch TTU in the nose in Ames, we're bowling.

Also, consider that Hayden left a much better program than Dan did and Iowa hiring a talented guy like KF certainly didn't hurt either. Does anyone think CPR absolutely cannot build a B12 co-champ Orange Bowl team. I really believe that in ten years he can.

Actually it took Ferentz 4 tries, but I get everyone's point.
