    Rhodes quote after the game

""I'm a glass half-full kind of guy, I thought we played a heck of a football game."

I'm a big fan of Rhodes... but is he insane? Where is the passion? Who in his right mind with expectations of winning any games in the Big 12 would say that about our performance today?

    It's Rhoads...

But he must of learned that from the school of Dan McCarney.

    Rhoads......

And it's really hard for me to judge by one comment, taken out of context. The kids will learn from this game, and come out fighting next week. That's why I'm glad he's our coach.

Re: Rhodes quote after the game

Maybe he's concerned about the psyche of his team moving forward. Clearly he can't think that we played well today, but he might not want his players to get fragile mentally.

We were physically out classed today, any way you look at it.

I think you nailed it - at this point he is in full damage control and attempting not to let this one loss turn into two.

I just watched the press conference and this was not what he said at all.

"I'm a glass half-full kind of guy and here are some positives..."

I hope that you guys are right. I must be drunk on cool-aide but I would like to think that this team could have done much better. Why say that we did well when everyone knows that we didn't put up as much fight as an FCS school?

Re: Rhodes quote after the game

They had a Rhoad's trivia bit about how he's the first ISU coach to win as many games as he has in his first years in quite some time (may even have been 100 years). He's a good coach for you guys, and I think part of the reason ISU hasn't had years of success is, in part, to the fact you guys can't seem to keep a coach for all that long.

This loss is worse on your player's emotions and psyche than it is really a dent on ISU's season. If he can get the guys focused and bring their spirits back up, then he's done his job, IMO.

Anyway, Iowa has a lot of talent, and ISU players might have actually played 100%, but just been out of their league. /shrugs

Where are you getting this? Like Rogue52, I watched the post game media conference and he didn't say anything like that.

I've always thought coaches are different from most of the rest of us. How can you work as hard as Div. IA coaches do and deal with defeats? Particularly one-sided defeats?

Maybe a coach has to fool himself a bit. Maybe he HAS to see the good in what is an overall weak performance. Maybe he has to BELIEVE. That he can make a difference. That the team will play better next week. That he's got a great group of young men to teach and a terrific staff that works its tail off.

Otherwise, how could he get up in the morning?

Me, CPR is my guy, every step of the way. If occasionally he says something that seems puzzling to me, well, maybe I don't understand completely the context in which he says it. And, I'll give him leeway, as a fan, to say something -- even a nonsensical something -- if he needs to say it to get through the tough moments.

CPR's job is to buck everyone up, he's the one everyone in his program looks to for leadership. I figure one important thing we fans can do is to give him a bit of room to recover; pat him on the back; tell him we're die-hard and we support him.

KF rebuilt the Iowa program in the 2001 and 2002 seasons and has been on a roll since. Danny Mac won a single Big 12 game in 2006; Chizik one five games during his two-year tenure in Ames. CPR, the third ISU coach KF has faced, is only 22 months into his Cyclone tenure.

I don't blame CPR for today's outcome; I blame we fans for having waaaaay unreasonable expectations for what we think this program can do so early in the Rhoads' regime.

The shoring-up job KF was required to do in Iowa City, in the wake of the Fry glory years, was far less Herculean than the mighty task facing CPR. I'll give my coach, Paul Rhoads, every break in the book. Hope most of you will, too.

Nice post. Instability has been a long-term problem here. That cycle of coaches leaving because they didn't succeed, but nobody gets a foundation built.

CPR will get these guys ready. He pulled it off last year, and he'll do it again.

We need to work on tackling and penalties. Just get those fundamental things worked out, and things go so much smoother.

The last ISU coach that won that many games in his first season got a stadium named after him (Clyde Williams)

CPR still has a winning record overall. We don't say that very often about one of our coaches.
